By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

OLIVE KITTERIDGE (HBO; W: Jane Anderson; D: Lisa Cholodenko) - Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are All Right) has been tapped to direct the pay channel's four-hour mini-series based on Elizabeth Strout's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel about "a seemingly placid New England town wrought with illicit affairs, crime and tragedy." She'll work from a script by Jane Anderson, who's executive producing alongside actress Frances McDormand and Playtone's Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman. McDormand stars as the title character, "whose wicked wit and harsh demeanor mask a warm but troubled heart and a staunch moral center." Richard Jenkins also stars as her husband, Henry. (Deadline.com)

UNTITLED MEREDITH VIEIRA PROJECT (Syndication, New!) - Departing "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" host Meredith Vieira is returning to the talk show genre with a new daytime pilot from NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution. Targeted for a fall 2014 launch, the project is billed as "lighter and more entertaining" than the offerings from her "Today" predecessors Jane Pauley and Katie Couric. No producing auspices however were given. (Deadline.com)

UNTITLED JASON CAHILL/GREG NICOTERO PROJECT (AMC, New!) - Jason Cahill ("Fringe") and Greg Nicotero ("The Walking Dead") are set to team for a potential drama at the cable channel billed as a "futuristic, dystopian, sci-fi saga." Scott Free Productions, which recently signed a two-year, first-look deal with AMC, is behind the hour with the company's Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker executive producing. Scott Free also has "The Terror," based on the best-selling novel by Dan Simmons; and "Raiders," "a WWII drama about a rogue U.S. Navy commander who leads an unconventional warfare unit into the heart of Africa on a mission that will bend the arc of history" in the works at the network. (Deadline.com)

AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Adult Swim has acquired the off-network rights to "Bob's Burgers" from Twentieth Television in a deal valued just shy of $500,000 an episode and set to begin this summer (Deadline.com); "21 Jump Street" helmers Phil Lord and Chris Miller have inked a three-year overall deal with 20th Century Fox Television (Deadline.com); and Catherine Bell will recur on TNT's "King & Maxwell" as the ex-lover of Jon Tenney's Sean King (EW.com).
