MTV ENLISTS INTERNATIONALLY CELEBRATED POP DUO "TEGAN AND SARA" AS "AWKWARD" GUEST MUSIC SUPERVISORS

Check Out their Song Choices on Next Week's Episode of "Awkward" Airing Tuesday, May 7 at 10:00 P.M. ET/PT

NEW YORK, NY (May 2, 2013) - MTV announced today that pop duo "Tegan and Sara" will serve up the soundtrack as guest music supervisors for next week's episode of "Awkward" when Matty moves in with the Hamiltons and Jenna discovers that cohabitation may be more than she bargained for. For a sneak peek of the episode, click here and to check out the inside scoop from Tegan and Sara on their role, click here.

Tegan and Sara Quin released their first independent full-length album in 1999 and over their 13-year career have built an avid global following of fans and fellow musicians alike. Having sold nearly one million career albums and toured with acts from The Killers to Neil Young, Tegan and Sara recently released their seventh studio album - Heartthrob - as internationally-celebrated songwriters, performers and artists. In addition to guest music supervising for this episode of "Awkward," songs from Tegan and Sara's new album, including the single "Closer," as well as "Goodbye, Goodbye" and "Drove Me Wild" will be featured throughout season three.

"The thing that's really interesting about having your music placed is that you have really very little say in where or how it's used, so this was a really cool opportunity to see what it's like to be on the other side of it," said Sara. "Thinking of the fans of the show who would be watching, who know that there is always really amazing music on 'Awkward' and for us to be able to bring to light some new, unknown artists for them, that ended up being the challenge I liked the most," said Tegan.

In this week's episode, Tegan and Sara chose to feature "90210" by The Courtneys, "Perpetual Surrender" by Diana, "Say Something" by Sucré, "All We Have" by Ok Sweetheart and "I Was A Fool" by Tegan and Sara. "Awkward" stars Ashley Rickards as Jenna, Beau Mirchoff as Matty, Molly Tarlov as Sadie, Jillian Rose Reed as Tamara, Brett Davern as Jake, Nikki DeLoach as Lacey, Desi Lydic as Valerie, Jessica Lu as Ming, Mike Faiola as Kevin and Greer Grammer as Lissa.

"Awkward" was created by Lauren Iungerich. Iungerich and Erin Ehrlich serve as executive producers.

Rochelle Holguin is Vice President Creative Music Integration for MTV. Ben Hochstein is the Music Supervisor for "Awkward."
