IFC'S ORIGINAL COMEDY SERIES PORTLANDIA SCORES TWO EMMY(R) NOMINATIONS FOR OUTSTANDING WRITING FOR A VARIETY SERIES & OUTSTANDING DIRECTING FOR A VARIETY SERIES

NEW YORK, NY, July 18, 2013 - IFC's original comedy series Portlandia was recognized today by The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences with two Emmy(R) Award nominations in the categories of Outstanding Writing for A Variety Series (Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein, Jonathan Krisel, Bill Oakley) and Outstanding Directing For A Variety Series (Jonathan Krisel).

"When you're lucky enough to work with talented people like Fred, Carrie and Jon good things tend to happen, and today is a perfect example of that," said Jennifer Caserta, IFC's president and general manager. "We are honored by these nominations and so proud to be the home of Portlandia, one of the most unique comedies on television and a show that has helped define and establish IFC's comedic sensibility."

Portlandia was nominated for Emmy Awards in 2012 for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series (Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein, Jonathan Krisel, Karey Dornetto) and Outstanding Directing for a Variety Series (Jonathan Krisel). It won a 2011 Emmy award for Outstanding Costumes for a Variety Program or Special. Portlandia was recognized in 2012 with a Peabody and in 2013 with a WGA award for best Comedy/Variety Series.

Created by Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein and Jonathan Krisel, Portlandia welcomes viewers to their quirky, free-range world written as an affectionate love letter to Portland, OR. The series is executive produced by Lorne Michaels and produced by Broadway Video. The show was recently renewed for a fourth and fifth season, premiering on IFC in 2014 and 2015, respectively.
