ESPN Ranks First in Perceived Value among Network Viewers
Disney and ESPN Media Networks Earn High Praise in Beta Cable Subscriber Study
In Beta Research Corp's annual Cable Subscriber Study, cable and telco TV subscribers named ESPN as the top network for perceived value among network viewers. Additionally, 20 percent of all respondents named ESPN among their Top Five Favorite Networks for the eighth consecutive year. It also ranked as the top network among Adults 18-49, Men 18+, Men 18-34, Men 18-49, Adults 18+ with children under the age of 12 in the household, Hispanics 18+ and respondents that viewed TV on a smartphone/tablet.
Overall, five of the top ten networks for perceived value are part of the Disney and ESPN Media Networks portfolio, including ESPN (no. 1), Disney Junior (no. 2), Disney Channel (no. 3), ESPN2 (no. 8) and Disney XD (no. 9) in the online survey. Additionally, among Men 18+, ESPN ranked as the top network for both programming quality and viewer satisfaction, while ESPN2 ranked fifth in both categories. ESPNU was also ranked seventh for perceived value among heavy social media users.
Results from the June 2013 Beta Cable Subscriber Study were generated from a national sample of 2,265 online questionnaires covering a survey area of 25 cable TV and telco TV system franchises across the country. The Beta Research Corp study measures viewer satisfaction of basic cable networks; importance of basic networks to enjoyment of cable; perceived value of basic networks; favorite basic networks; program quality of basic networks; valuation of networks among specific age/sex, MSO and other sample groups; and sampling of basic networks (percent viewing past 12 months).
