|
|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
THE FLASH (The CW/WBTV; W: Greg Berlanti, Geoff Johns & Andrew Kreisberg; D: David Nutter) - Grant Gustin ("Glee") has snagged the title role on the potential "Arrow" spin-off, featuring the DC Comics hero of the same name. He'll appear in three episodes - eight, nine and 20 - this season as Barry Allen, "a Central City assistant police forensic investigator who arrives in Starling to look into a series of unexplained robberies that may have a connection to a tragedy in his past. A comic book fan boy, Barry is obsessed with the Arrow unaware that working with Oliver and Felicity to solve the crime has brought him right into the dangerous world of the vigilante." The latter installment will serve as the actual backdoor pilot as Allen presumably takes up the Flash mantle. (THR.com)
GIRLFRIENDS' GUIDE TO DIVORCE (Bravo/UCP; W: Marti Noxon; D: TBA) - Lisa Edelstein ("House") has been tapped for the lead role on the drama pilot, about the famous author of a best-selling self-help book series who is hiding the fact that she's separated from her husband as she starts to navigate her life as a single woman in her early 40s in Los Angeles. Dawn Olmstead, Vicki Iovine and Meryl Poster also serve as executive producers on the hour. (THR.com)
SEASON TICKETS (NBC, New!) - Craig Gerard and Matthew Zinman ("How I Met Your Mother") have sold a potential single-camera comedy to the network about "a New York transplant who finds family when he joins a section of season ticket holders for the Kansas City Royals." 20th Century Fox Television is producing. (Deadline.com)
THE THIRTEEN (ABC, New!) - Feature writers Jim Agnew and Sean Keller (Tokarev) are developing a new drama at the Alphabet which "takes place in a world in which the colonies lost their bid for independence, and America is still fighting the British for freedom." Said effort is set up at Lionsgate Television with Allison Shearmur also among the executive producers. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED ASEEM BATRA PROJECT (NBC, New!) - Aseem Batra ("Animal Practice") has set up a single-camera comedy at the Peacock about "a single dad who moves his out-of-control family from the chaos of a big city to a quiet but quirky town in the deep south." Universal Television is behind the half-hour with Aaron Kaplan of Kapital Entertainment and Joe and Anthony Russo also serving as executive producers. (Deadline.com)
UNTITLED DYLAN MORAN PROJECT (ABC, New!) - The Alphabet is developing a potential starring vehicle for BAFTA winning Irish comic Dylan Moran. ABC Studios is behind the comedy, which Moran would write, star in and executive produce. No other details were given. (Deadline.com)
WOLFE (NBC, New!) - Greg Poirier (ABC's "Missing") has booked a potential drama at the Peacock about "an enterprising criminal who discovers the CIA's biggest agent, Westley Wolfe, is actually a fake, an invented hero meant to distract the public from their recent failures. The criminal assumes the spy's identity and steps into his sexy world-travelling life. The CIA can't out him or else they'd be outing themselves." Davis Entertainment's John Davis and John Fox also serve as executive producers on the Sony Pictures Television-based project, which has a penalty attached. (Deadline.com)
AND IN OTHER NEWS... - Janet Tamaro is exiting "Rizzoli & Isles" as showrunner after four seasons but will remain as a consultant while developing new projects (Deadline.com); production on "Castle" once again shut down on Friday after Nathan Fillion called in sick with reportedly chronic back problems (Deadline.com); "Perception" co-creator Kenneth Biller has inked a two-year overall deal with producer ABC Studios (Deadline.com); "The Karate Kid" alum William Zabka will return to "How I Met Your Mother" as himself for at least eight more episodes this season (EW.com); Andy Mientus will guest on "Anger Management" as a potential love interest for Michael Arden's Patrick, his partner in real life (TVLine.com); and Christine Baranski will reprise her role as Leonard's brilliant-but-socially-challenged mother on "The Big Bang Theory" this season (TVLine.com).
