SPIKE TV OPTIONS "TUT," A SCRIPTED LIMITED EVENT SERIES

New York, NY, September 19, 2013 - Spike TV has optioned a limited event series script that takes an illuminating, new look at the extraordinary story of Tutankhamun, based on recently discovered historical evidence. Tutankhamun (King Tut, 1333 to 1323 BC) was the youngest Pharaoh to rule Ancient Egypt.

"Tut" was brought to Spike TV by MUSE Entertainment ("The Kennedys," "Pillars of the Earth," "Last Templar") with Joel S. Rice and Michael Prupas from Muse along with Greg Gugliotta ("The Fosters") as Executive Producers, Michael Vickerman ("Impact") as Writer/ Executive Producer, and Bradley Bredeweg and Peter Paige (Creators and Executive Producers, "The Fosters") as Writers.

If greenlit, "Tut" will be a ground-breaking, six-part, action-packed series combining the drama of power, political backstabbing, war and murder. Based on historical fact from DNA evidence recently unearthed, this dramatic scripted series will capture King Tut's fascinating rise to glory, his efforts to rule a chaotic empire and the enigma surrounding his untimely death.

With a backdrop of ancient Egypt in the opulent palace of the Pharaoh, dripping with gold and untold riches, a young Tut is thrust into power after the murder of his father. The neophyte ruler is forced to marry his sister in order to maintain the dynasty. Although Tut rules as Pharaoh, he is controlled like a puppet by three formidable men who plot against him and vie for the throne themselves.

Against all odds, Tut grows from an insecure and manipulated prince to a hero on the battlefield, leading his kingdom into war and victory. Just as he takes control of his nation and his destiny, he is betrayed.

Sharon Levy is Spike TV's Executive Vice President, Original Series.
