THE ADVOCATE (CBS, New!) - Ayelet Waldman ("Applebaum") is developing a new drama at the Eye about "a former doctor who has found her calling as a medical advocate, where she works on behalf of patients and their loved ones, solving medical crises and mysteries, and guaranteeing people the care they deserve." CBS Television Studios is behind the hour with Carol Mendelsohn and Julie Weitz of Carol Mendelsohn Productions executive producing alongside Judy Smith ("Scandal"). (Deadline.com)


COMPLICATIONS (USA/FTS; W: Matt Nix; D: TBA) - Jason O'Mara ("Vegas") has scored the lead role on the drama pilot, about John Ellis, a disillusioned suburban ER doctor, who finds his existence transformed when he intervenes in a drive-by shooting, saving a young boy's life and killing one of his attackers. When he learns the boy is still marked for death he finds himself compelled to save him at any cost and discovers that his life and his outlook on medicine may never be the same. (Deadline.com)


FINDING CARTER (MTV; W: Emily Silver & Terri Minsky; D: TBA) - Alexis Denisof (Much Ado About Nothing) is the latest addition to the drama pilot, about Carter (Kathryn Prescott), a teenager who has the perfect life with her fun-loving single mom Lori until a police bust reveals that Lori abducted her as a toddler. Denisof will play David Wilson, Carter's father, "who frequently is the family mediator and the most levelheaded in the house. As a novelist, he saw his only real success with his true crime novel Losing Lyndon about the disappearance of his daughter." Anna Jacoby-Heron, Cynthia Watros, Nolan Sotillo and Zac Pullam also star. (THR.com)


FRAGILE (ABC, New!) - Thompson Evans (Hit List) is spearheading a domestic take on the 2012 Spanish series "Frágiles," about "a highly regarded, eccentric trauma surgeon who has a near-death experience, after which he decides to put down his scalpel and treat patients' physical challenges by making them confront their emotional ones." Bob Sertner Productions' Bob Sertner, Island Productions' Victor Garcia and Powwow Media Partners' Daniel Gutman are also on board to executive produce. Garcia, Victor Mato and Manu Sanabria created the original series. (Deadline.com)


GRETA STONE (ABC, New!) - Bestselling novelist Patricia Cornwell is developing a new drama at the Alphabet about "a young, orphaned, highly skilled female cop who is has an uncanny ability to solve crime." Stephanie Sengupta ("Reign") is co-writing the hour alongside Cornwell as well as executive producing alongside Matt Gross via his ABC Studios-based Gross Entertainment. (Deadline.com)


HOURMAN (The CW, New!) - Michael Caleo ("Ironside") is set to bring the DC Comics hero Hourman to the small screen. Said effort will revolve around "a "brilliant yet troubled pharmaceutical analyst who discovers that he can see glimpses of tragic events about to occur one hour into the future. Determined to win back his ex-wife and son, he heroically prevents these tragedies from unfolding, finding both purpose and redemption along the way." Warner Bros. Television-based Lin Pictures is behind the hour with the company's Dan Lin and Jennifer Gwartz executive producing alongside Caleo. (TVGuide.com)


OPEN (HBO/Fox 21; W: Lauren Gussis & Ryan Murphy; D: TBA) - Cheyenne Jackson ("30 Rock") is the latest addition to the drama pilot, "a modern, provocative exploration of human sexuality and relationships." He'll play a new character Murphy reportedly has created for him, "a handsome meth addict." Anna Torv, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Michelle Monaghan, Scott Speedman and Wes Bentley also star in the project. (Deadline.com)


THE PAINTED GIRLS (The CW, New!) - Cathy Marie Buchanan's book - about "three sisters studying at a top ballet academy in 1880s Paris, where decadence, poverty, sex, drugs and a serial killer are running rampant throughout the city" - is being developed as a drama at the netlet. Tony-nominated playwright Geoffrey Nauffts (Next Fall) will pen the hour and serve as a co-executive producer with The Dan Jinks Company's Dan Jinks ("Emily Owens, MD") executive producing for CBS Television Studios. POMONA KINGS (FOX, New!) - Jaime Paglia ("Eureka") and James Middleton ("Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles") have set up a potential drama at the network about "a star-crossed romance of the prodigal son and drag-racing daughter of warring family patriarchs in the world of custom car shops and drag racing in Southern California." Marcus Wiley is also on board to executive produce the hour, which has yet to be laid off at a studio. (Deadline.com)


ROOTS (History, New!) - A new eight-hour mini-series based on Alex Haley's novel of the same name - subtitled "The Saga of an American Family" - is in the works at the cable channel. Mark Wolper, whose father David L. Wolper was an executive producer on the original 1977 adaptation for ABC, is executive producing the updated take, which "will draw both on the book and the original mini from a contemporary perspective." "Roots" revolves around Kunta Kinte, "an 18th-century African, captured as an adolescent and sold into slavery in the United States, and follows his life and the lives of his alleged descendants in the U.S. down to Haley." UNTITLED PALLY & GREGOR & MAND PROJECT (NBC, New!) - Adam Pally ("The Mindy Project") is set to team with Dan Gregor and Doug Mand ("How I Met Your Mother") for a new single-camera comedy about "two guys who strike it rich after developing a mobile application." Said trio will pen the 20th Century Fox Television-based half-hour, which has a penalty attached. (THR.com)


UNTITLED SOO HUGH PROJET (ABC, New!) - Soo Hugh ("Under the Dome") has sold a potential drama to the Alphabet billed as "a race against the clock to defeat an unseen alien enemy out to destroy the world by using the Earth's most precious resource: children." ABC Studios is behind the hour with Grady Girl Productions' Dawn Olmstead and Amblin Television's Justin Falvey and Darryl Frank executive producing alongside Hugh. (THR.com)
