MTV NAMES MILEY CYRUS BEST ARTIST OF 2013

CYRUS RANKS AS MOST VISITED ARTIST ON ARTISTS.MTV.COM AND MOST WATCHED MUSIC VIDEO FOR HER VMA PERFORMANCE WITH ROBIN THICKE

New York, NY (December 10, 2013) - MTV today announced that pop sensation Miley Cyrus (Miley.MTV.com) has been selected by its Music and News teams as MTV's Best Artist of 2013. Additionally, according to traffic data from music discovery site, Artists.MTV.com, Cyrus had the year's most visited artist page, while her medley of "We Can't Stop/Blurred Lines" with Robin Thicke from the 2013 "MTV Video Music Awards" tops the list as the most watched video of 2013.

In addition, MTV's 2013 "Best Of" lists will continue to roll out this week, including the Top 10 Best Movies on Wednesday, December 11, Best Songs on Thursday, December 12 and Best Movie Characters on Friday, December 13. To view all of MTV's year-end content visit BestOf.MTV.com.

Miley Cyrus dominated both the charts and headlines this year with the release of the critically acclaimed #1 album, Bangerz, two #1 worldwide smash singles, "We Can't Stop," and "Wrecking Ball," two jaw dropping performances during the 2013 "MTV Video Music Awards" and "MTV EMA", an original MTV documentary "Miley: The Movement," as well as a memorable turn as a host and performer on Saturday Night Live.

She is only the third artist to receive the distinction of being named MTV's Best Artist of the Year with past honorees including Katy Perry (2012) and One Direction (2013).

Several members of this year's graduating class of MTV's Artists to Watch, a biweekly campaign in which an artist and their music are showcased across all of MTV's networks and screens, made the editorial lists. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, who made history as the first artists to perform at all three MTV award show events in a single calendar year, were named #2 best artist of 2013, while New Zealand singer-songwriter Lorde who scored a massive anti-hit with "Royals," ranks as #9 on the list. In early 2014, MTV will announce this year's Artist to Watch class.

The criteria for the editorial lists included album and single sales, touring, airplay, social media, Internet and overall impact.
