LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- NBC has given a six-episode order to "Mr. Robinson," a single-camera comedy about an impulsive, good-hearted musician (Craig Robinson) who adjusts to his new life as a music teacher in a big-city middle school.
The project - from writer Owen Ellickson and director Steve Pink - was originally developed during the past development cycle. "Back in the Game" co-creators Mark Cullen and Rob Cullen have subsequently signed on to run the Universal Television-based project, replacing Ellickson and his fellow executive producers Greg Daniels, Gabe Miller and Jonathan Green. 3 Arts Entertainment's Howard Klein and Mark Schulman however remain aboard as executive producers.
The ensemble cast also includes Amanda Lund, Amandla Stenberg, Jean Smart and Larenz Tate.
Deadline.com and THR.com originally broke the news.
