SHOWTIME(R) PRESENTS "PENNY DREADFUL" AT SXSW

First-Look Screening And Q&A To Feature Series Stars Josh Hartnett And Harry Treadaway, Along with Director Juan Antonio Bayona

Network Offers Branded Experience Including PENNY DREADFUL Film Festival Shuttle Buses And Sponsorship Of The SXSW GO App

NEW YORK, NY - (February 24, 2014) - SHOWTIME will present a first-look screening of its highly anticipated new horror series PENNY DREADFUL at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival on Sunday, March 9 at 2 p.m. in the Vimeo Theater at the Austin Convention Center in Austin, Texas. PENNY DREADFUL, from the creative mind of three-time Oscar(R) nominee John Logan (Hugo, The Aviator, Gladiator, Skyfall), has been selected as one of six shows for the Festival's brand new "Episodic" screening category. PENNY DREADFUL stars Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down) and Harry Treadaway (The Lone Ranger), along with famed genre master Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage, The Impossible) who directed the first two episodes of the series, will be in attendance for an extended audience Q&A following the screening. PENNY DREADFUL will premiere on Sunday, May 11 at 10 p.m. only on SHOWTIME.

For the second consecutive year, the impact of the SHOWTIME brand will be experienced through the official sponsorship of the multi-platform SXSW GO app, as well as the Film Festival's shuttles. Festival goers will be able to hop onboard a PENNY DREADFUL-branded bus which will shuttle them from the Austin Convention Center to film venues throughout the city for the duration of SXSW. The official SXSW GO mobile app, presented by SHOWTIME, allows attendees to view, plan and share their schedule, network with others and navigate the convention once they are on the ground. The app sponsorship will feature an in-app experience inspired by PENNY DREADFUL, which highlights trending topics and locations at SXSW and around Austin. Powered by real-time data from Foursquare, Twitter and SXSW schedule data, the experience will allow users to select from a deck of tarot cards, and based on their selections, will provide a tarot reading that accesses the dynamic festival schedule information and trending social data to make recommendations for what their next move should be. SXSW attendees will also be able to download a "PENNY DREADFUL Fan Pass" with their iPhone Passbook or Google Wallet to get access to exclusive video content and other series updates. For additional images featuring the art on the PENNY DREADFUL shuttle buses and the SXSW GO mobile app, go to: http://bit.ly/1nUdsPb.

In PENNY DREADFUL, some of literature's most famously terrifying characters - including Dr. Frankenstein, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the novel Dracula, all brilliantly reimagined in a whole new light - have become embroiled in Victorian London. The series is a frightening psychosexual thriller created, written and executive produced by Logan and executive produced by Logan's Desert Wolf Productions, along with Oscar winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall) and Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road, Call The Midwife), both of Neal Street. Of the eight episodes, the first two will be directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, who helmed The Orphanage and the acclaimed film, The Impossible starring Naomi Watts in her Oscar-nominated performance. PENNY DREADFUL stars Josh Hartnett (Black Hawk Down), Timothy Dalton (The Living Daylights, License to Kill) and Eva Green (Casino Royale). Reeve Carney (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark), Rory Kinnear (Skyfall), Billie Piper (Doctor Who, Secret Diary of a Call Girl), Danny Sapani (The Bill) and Harry Treadaway (The Lone Ranger) also star.
