Britt McHenry to Join ESPN as Washington, D.C.-Based Reporter

Britt McHenry will join ESPN as Washington, D.C.-based bureau reporter, who will serve as correspondent for various news-gathering platforms including SportsCenter, Outside the Lines and sport-specific programs like NFL Live and Baseball Tonight. The move is effective March 17.

McHenry is currently a sports reporter in Washington, D.C at ABC7/WJLA-TV (since 2010) and at News Channel 8 (since 2008) where she began her career in Washington as a community reporter and weekend morning-show anchor.

In Washington, she covered Stephen Strasburg's first big league camp; was the first D.C. reporter to secure a sit down interview with Bryce Harper when he was just 17-years old; covered the 2012 Nationals-Cardinals NLDS; and landed 1-on-1 interviews with Redskins owner Dan Snyder (days after he sued the Washington City Paper) and Mike Shanahan during his last season. She also covered the Ravens, providing sideline post-game reports during Baltimore's 2013 AFC Championship and co-hosting an hour long Super Bowl special.

"In a relatively short time, Britt has established a reputation for strong, aggressive reporting in the D.C. area, and an ability to land big interviews," said Vince Doria, Sr. VP and Director of News. "Her presence there will be a great benefit to ESPN's newsgathering, and, as with all of our bureau reporters, she will be assigned to high-profile stories around the country."

McHenry earned her master's degree from Northwestern University's Medill School of Journalism, and holds a bachelor's degree from Stetson University where she was a member of the school's Division I soccer team. She is a native of Mount Holly Township, N.J. and grew up in Satellite Beach, Fla.
