SUNDANCE TV's CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED SERIES, "THE RETURNED," HONORED WITH THE GEORGE FOSTER PEABODY AWARD

New York, April 2, 2014 - SundanceTV's acclaimed supernatural drama, "The Returned," has been honored with a Peabody Award, it was announced today. This is the fourth time that the network has been honored with a Peabody win-the first in 2005 for "The Staircase," the second in 2008 for "Nimrod Nation," and the third in 2010 for "Brick City." The 73rd Annual George Foster Peabody Awards will be hosted this year by Ira Glass and presented on May 19th at a ceremony held at New York's Waldorf-Astoria.

The Peabody Board described "The Returned" as "thoughtfully conceptualized, exquisitely photographed and sensitively acted," adding that "this supernatural drama explores loss, grief, memory, guilt and our notions of afterlife as deceased residents of a picturesque mountain town in France seemingly return. It's elegant, it's zombie-free and it's still unnerving."

From Zodiak Rights, season one of the French series premiered on SundanceTV to universal critical acclaim and was hailed by dozens of critics as one of the best new series of 2013. The Wall Street Journal called it "a superbly stylish and scary French drama with no equal in its genre," Entertainment Weekly described it as "one of the coolest, creepiest new shows on TV," and The Hollywood Reporter stated that it was "one of the most intriguing, utterly original offerings of the year."

The network recently announced it will co-produce the eight-episode second season which will air on SundanceTV in 2015.

Sarah Barnett, President and GM of SundanceTV, stated: "The response to 'The Returned' from viewers and critics alike has been overwhelming. We are so proud of this unique and brilliant show, and the fact that the Peabody Board saw fit to acknowledge us with this prestigious honor, c'est magnifique!"

In an idyllic French mountain town, a seemingly random collection of people find themselves in a state of confusion as they attempt to return to their homes. What they don't know yet is that they have been dead for several years, and no one is expecting them back. As they struggle to reintegrate with their families and past lovers, buried secrets emerge and new mysteries develop as they grapple with a miraculous and sinister new reality. But it seems they are not the only ones to have returned from the dead. Their arrival coincides with a series of gruesome murders which bear a chilling resemblance to the work of a serial killer from the past. The series was created by Fabrice Gobert and is based on the feature film Les Revenants by Robin Campillo. The series was produced by Caroline Benjo, Jimmy Desmarais and Carole Scotta from Haut et Court.

Following on the heels of Golden Globe(R) and Emmy(R) winning "Top of the Lake" and critically acclaimed original scripted series "Rectify," "The Returned" marks a continued commitment by SundanceTV to offer daring original entertainment. SundanceTV will have a robust offering of original scripted programs in 2014 including the network's second fully owned original scripted series, "The Red Road" which premiered February 27th, the second season of the critically-acclaimed "Rectify" debuting this June, as well as the original mini-series "The Honorable Woman," starring Maggie Gyllenhaal and "One Child," starring Katie Leung, both co-produced with BBC Worldwide.
