truTV to Roll Out Eight New Series over Seven Months

Slate Includes Summer Premieres of Motor City Masters and Way Out West, Plus Fall Launches of Jokers Wild, Fake Off, Friends of the People, Hair Jacked, How to Be a Grownup and more

truTV is preparing to roll out eight new series over the next seven months as the network continues its extensive brand and programming evolution. The slate includes the summer premieres of the new car-design competition series Motor City Masters (June 24) and the reality western Way Out West (July 21). In the fall, truTV will launch the Impractical Jokers spin-off Jokers Wild (Sept. 25); the unique performance competition show Fake Off (Oct. 27); Friends of the People (Oct. 28), the network's first sketch-comedy series; the ambush game show Hair Jacked (October); and How to Be a Grown Up (October), a comedic take on the relatable trials and tribulations of true adulthood. And this winter, truTV will premiere Local News (working title), a look at the playful rivalry between the news teams at two small town television stations.

In addition to its debuting series, truTV will offer up new episodes of its hit show Impractical Jokers (Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. ET/PT) and its popular and acclaimed new series The Carbonaro Effect (Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT).

truTV has been working with some of the industry's top producers to create programming designed to appeal to "funseekers," a younger, dual-gender audience that looks for television to take them on a fun ride that both surprises and entertains. Over the past nine months, truTV has put significant resources behind reshaping its brand and has turned over a slate of more than 30 new projects in development.

Below is a rundown of truTV's programming highlights for June - December 2014.

Impractical Jokers - Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. (ET/PT)

Four longtime friends take dares to outrageous new levels in truTV's hilarious series Impractical Jokers, now in its third season. Q, Murr, Joe and Sal bravely face some of the most unbelievably awkward and brazen hijinks yet, daring each other with over-the-top challenges that are guaranteed to set a new side-splitting standard. Impractical Jokers premiered to critical acclaim in December 2011 and quickly became one of truTV's biggest hits, especially among young adults. The show has averaged more than 2.1 million viewers in 2014 and consistently ranks as one of the Top 5 basic cable programs in its timeslot. Impractical Jokers comes to truTV from NorthSouth Productions.

The Carbonaro Effect - Thursdays at 10 p.m. (ET/PT)

truTV's brand new series The Carbonaro Effect follows comic magician Michael Carbonaro as he uses his skills to trick, amaze and amuse an unsuspecting public. This show has quickly become a hit for truTV, ranking as one of basic cable's Top 3 programs in the timeslot with adults 18-34. The show also generated a great deal of social media buzz with its April 1 sneak peek, prompting truTV to order 13 additional episodes before the series even launched. The Carbonaro Effect will mark its mid-season finale in August, returning with new episodes in October 2014. The Carbonaro Effect is produced for truTV by Fields Entertainment and 11 Television.

Challenges on Motor City Masters will explore various aspects of design, inside and out, with two entire concept cars being built in each episode. The designs will be judged by automotive expert and former editor in chief of Automobile Magazine Jean Jennings and internationally renowned car designer Harald Belker. They will be joined each week by a special celebrity guest judge. truTV has ordered 10 episodes for the first season of Motor City Masters, which is being produced by Bunim/Murray Productions and Dentsu Aegis Network's The Story Lab.

Way Out West - Series Premiere: Monday, July 21, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT)

Amidst the beautiful, majestic mountains of Idaho, three boisterous, fun-loving families of outfitters have been living, laughing and competing with each other for three generations. Now they're at the center of truTV's brand new series Way Out West, a fascinating and fun look at these three truly original clans who love life and know how to have a good time. The Youren, Bullock and Korell families all run rival outfitting businesses, taking clients deep inside the country's last great wilderness for tracking, fishing, rafting, horse riding and camping trips. truTV's Way Out West follows these three charismatic, engaging families as they compete to lead the best excursions, survive their various family shenanigans and participate in local festivals and time-honored traditions. From guiding city-dwellers who would otherwise lose their way to rescuing the families' own lost cattle, these men and women of the backcountry live surprisingly relatable lives, facing everyday family situations like raising kids and finding love in the last remnants of the Wild West. Way Out West is being produced for the network by Rogue-Atlas Productions in association with Lionsgate Television.

Jokers Wild - Series Premiere: Thursday, Sept. 25, at 10 p.m. (ET/PT)

In this brand new series, everyone's favorite Impractical Jokers - Sal, Q, Murr and Joe - take viewers on a wild ride, going beyond the pranks for a comical look at their personal lives. Everyone can relate to disastrous dates, embarrassing habits and humiliating childhood memories, but only the Jokers can one-up each other in such colorful, authentic and hilariously awkward ways. In front of a live studio audience, the four guys dive head-first into their respective romantic histories, pet peeves and more, while introducing clips that further illustrate their varying views of the world. truTV has ordered six episodes of Jokers Wild, which is being produced for the network by NorthSouth Productions.

Fake Off - Series Premiere: Monday, Oct. 27

Fake Off is a truly unique performance competition in which ten teams from around the country will vie against each other in the captivating art of Faking, a mix of theater, acrobatics, black light and illusion. Actor and dancer Robert Hoffman (Step Up 2: The Streets, 90210) will host the series, which will feature an impressive judging panel that includes music superstar and five-time Grammy winner Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas of the mega-group TLC; actor-dancer-choreographer Harry Shum Jr. (Glee, The LXD); and world renowned visual & concept designer Michael Curry (Broadway's The Lion King, Cirque du Soleil's Love). In an elimination competition unlike anything American audiences have seen before, teams will reimagine iconic moments in pop culture to see who's got the skills to be named America's Fake Off Champions. truTV has ordered eight episodes of Fake Off, which is being produced for the network by Shine America.

Friends of the People - Series Premiere: Tuesday, Oct. 28

Friends of the People is truTV's first-ever sketch-comedy series. In the show, comedians Kevin Barnett, Jennifer Bartels, Jermaine Fowler, Lil Rel Howery, The Lucas Bros. and Josh Rabinowitz will take sketch comedy to the next level, with a combination of scripted scenes, man-on-the-street segments and more, including a previously-untold story from television history, and the adventures of "Tracy Morgan Freeman." truTV has ordered 10 episodes of Friends of the People, which is being produced by 3 Arts Entertainment and Marobru Productions.

Hair Jacked - Series Premiere: October

Produced by the team behind Hollywood Game Night, Hair Jacked is a hilarious, high-energy ambush game show in which unsuspecting contestants have the chance to win cash, all while getting a haircut. But they have to play smart because one wrong answer could send them packing with the worst hairstyle of their lives. truTV has ordered 16 half-hour episodes of Hair Jacked, which comes to the network from Mission Control Media, Hazy Mills Productions and CORE Media Group

How to Be a Grown Up - Series Premiere: October

truTV's How to Be a Grown Up is an extremely funny take on advice shows, with top-name comics offering humorous guidance and common-sense solutions to universal issues facing all adults who feel like they're a kid stuck in a grown-up body. The advice is delivered through interviews, sketches and animation. If you're 40-going-on-21, this is the series for you. truTV has ordered 16 half-hour episodes for this series, which comes to the network from Mission Control Media.

Local News (working title) - Series Premiere: December 2014

When a spunky young reporter from Connecticut lands her first big job in a small-town news market, an unexpected shake-up occurs. truTV's Local News (working title) follows a group of local anchors as they compete for the top spot in the game. The character-driven docu-soap will spotlight the playful - and at times cut-throat - rivalry between two local news stations and the dynamic newscasters who are determined to take their jobs seriously, even when some of the news they cover is less than serious. truTV has ordered eight episodes of Local News, which is being produced for the network by Electus.
