UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - December 2, 2014 - Time Inc.'s PEOPLE, the world's most popular magazine and celebrity brand reaching more than 59 million consumers each week, is teaming up with NBC and dick clark productions, the world's largest producer and proprietor of live television events, for "The PEOPLE Magazine Awards," a star-studded event special and snapshot of the year in pop culture.
The two-hour special will broadcast live on NBC on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 9 P.M. ET/PT, from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The night will include performances from 5 Seconds of Summer and Maroon 5.
Celebrities scheduled to appear include Jennifer Aniston, Kevin Hart, Kate Hudson, Michael Keaton and Jennifer Lopez. Additional talent will be announced soon.
5 Seconds of Summer released their self-titled debut album in July 2014. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and logged the biggest first-week U.S. sales of any new artist debut of 2014. It has topped the iTunes charts in 76 countries and, in five short months, has sold more than two million units worldwide. The band have just announced their upcoming live album "LIVESOS" to be released December 15. The band received five awards at the 2014 MTV European Music Awards, including Best New Artists, and took home the MTV Video Music Award for Best Lyric Video for "Don't Stop."
Selling more than 17 million albums worldwide, Maroon 5's releases have gone gold and platinum in more than 35 countries. The band quickly won over fans and critics alike with the hybrid rock/R&B sound they introduced on their debut album, "Songs About Jane," and their double platinum release, "It Won't be Soon Before Long." In 2010, the band debuted their third studio album, "Hands All Over," which featured the group's anthemic chart-topping smash single "Moves Like Jagger." The song has since gone on to become one of the best-selling singles of all time. Maroon 5's last album, "Overexposed," reinforced the group's status as a powerhouse in popular music with all of its singles rising to the top of the charts and setting an all-time record for the most #1s (six in total) by a group in the Top 40 chart's 20-year history. The group's latest release, "V," debuted at #1 on Billboard's TOP 200 chart and features the hit singles "Maps" and "Animals," which just hit #1 on the Top 40 chart.
