UConn & Notre Dame to Meet for Second Straight Year in Jimmy V Women's Classic

2015 Event to be Held in Connecticut

ESPN, in conjunction with The V Foundation for Cancer Research, announces the University of Connecticut and University of Notre Dame will meet for the second straight year in the 2015 Jimmy V Women's Classic. The annual event - to be televised on ESPN or ESPN2 - will be played in Connecticut at a date, venue and time to be determined.

The 2015 Jimmy V Women's Classic will be the second consecutive year that UConn and Notre Dame will meet in this annual event. Notre Dame will be participating for the second straight time, while UConn will be playing for the fifth straight year and eighth time overall.

UConn-ND series highlights:

· The series dates back to the 1995-96 season when the Fighting Irish joined the former BIG EAST with the Huskies leading the all-time series 31-11.

· The two teams have met four times in the NCAA Women's National Semifinals with Notre Dame holding a 3-1 edge in victories, and for the first time in the 2014 NCAA National Championship game.

· To date, UConn has won nine NCAA Women's National Championships (1995, 2000, '02, '03, '04, '09, '10, '13, '14) and Notre Dame captured the 2001 title.

· The 2013-14 season marked the first time in almost 20 years that UConn and Notre Dame did not face off during the regular season.

The early-season event is part of ESPN's Jimmy V Week for Cancer Research, which is held yearly in early December, across all domestic ESPN platforms to drive awareness of and donations to The V Foundation for Cancer Research. In 2013, Jimmy V Week raised a record $1.8 million, bringing the seven-year total of contributions to more than $8.2 million.
