HAP & LEONARD (SundanceTV; W: Jim Mickle & Nick Damici; D: Jim Mickle) - James Purefoy ("The Following") is set star opposite Michael Kenneth Williams in the upcoming drama, based on the rollicking Joe Lansdale Southern noir book series about an unlikely pair of best friends and martial arts experts - Hap Collins (Purefoy) and Leonard Pine (Williams) - who struggle through misadventure, to stay on the right side of the law in 1980's East Texas. Bill Sage and Jimmi Simpson also star. (Deadline.com)
SPIRAL (Showtime, New!) - Tom Fontana and James Yoshimura are looking to import Alexandra Clert and Guy-Patrick Saninderichin's French cop drama series "Engrenages" at the pay channel. Said project is billed as "a look at the machinery of the French justice system through the eyes of a young deputy prosecutor, a police captain, a preliminary judge and a criminal lawyer." Barry Levinson, Steve McPherson and Endemol Shine Studios' Jeremy Gold will also executive produce alongside Fontana and Yoshimura, who will pen the script. (Deadline.com)
