Olympic Gold Medalist Heather Mitts Hosts Search for Best Teen Female Soccer Player in Special Four-Night TV Event

All-Star Judges Include Marcelo Balboa, Angela Hucles and Dan Metcalfe

NEW YORK - JUNE 15, 2015 - Right after the crowning of the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup champion, Nickelodeon presents Soccer Superstar, a four-night reality competition TV event that follows the coast-to-coast search across the U.S. for the next best teen female soccer player. Debuting Wednesday, July 8, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT),during the NickSports TV block on Nicktoons, Soccer Superstar is hosted by three-time soccer Olympic gold medalist Heather Mitts, who is joined by a panel of all-star judges including National Soccer Hall of Famer Marcelo Balboa, two-time Olympic gold medalist Angela Hucles and youth development expert Dan Metcalfe. Soccer Superstar is produced by Kristopher Lythgoe (American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance) and will air on four consecutive nights, Wednesday, July 8, through Saturday, July 11, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nicktoons.

"Soccer Superstar provides a great opportunity for young girls to showcase their skills, while promoting the growth of women's soccer in the U.S.," said Heather Mitts. "I remember the nerves, being challenged and working hard on the field, and Soccer Superstar takes the audience through that journey of becoming a skilled soccer player in an exciting, up close and personal way."

Soccer Superstar also features interviews with soccer professionals, including members of this year's U.S. Women's World Cup team Alex Morgan, Carli Lloyd and Amy Rodriguez, and training challenges led by former soccer professionals Lorrie Fair, Cobi Jones and Mario Melchiot, and Olympic Beach Volleyball silver medalists Jen Kessy and April Ross.

Throughout the season, Soccer Superstar follows 15 teen female soccer players on the Final Squad as they compete for the title of Soccer Superstar. After each week, the judges, Marcelo Balboa, Angela Hucles and Dan Metcalfe, decide who is eliminated based on their performances in training, competitive games and various soccer challenges on the field (penalty kicks, kick ups, beep test fitness) and personality challenges off the field (ballet, beach volleyball). After four games, one girl will be crowned the Soccer Superstar.

Soccer Superstar is the latest series to join NickSports, a lineup of sports-themed content including series, specials, movies and documentaries from major professional leagues and athletes. NickSports on Nicktoons airs every Wednesday from 9-11 p.m. (ET/PT).
