BBC AMERICA ANNOUNCES SIR DAVID ATTENBOROUGH FOR LANDMARK NATURAL HISTORY SERIES, "THE HUNT"

FROM MULTI-EMMY(R) -WINNING PRODUCER ALASTAIR FOTHERGILL

New York - July 22, 2015 - BBC AMERICA announced today that famed naturalist, Sir David Attenborough, will narrate the channel's first landmark natural history co-production, The Hunt. The upcoming series is from the team behind the BBC's ground-breaking Planet Earth series, Emmy(R)-winning executive producer Alastair Fothergill and series producer Huw Cordey of Silverback Films. The Hunt premieres in 2016 on BBC AMERICA, the US home of the BBC's landmark natural history series.

The Hunt uses character driven stories to illustrate in dramatic detail the strategies predators use to catch their prey and those that the prey use to escape - with each episode based on one of our planet's key habitats. From open grasslands and dense forests to the arctic and the open ocean, the series will reveal the challenges predators and prey face in these very different worlds.

Many of the stories will show rarely seen animal behavior such as polar bears using meltwater pools in the ice to stalk seals, Arctic foxes leaping to catch auks mid-flight, and killer whales hunting humpback whale calves in tropical waters. The Hunt will also feature animals that have rarely been filmed including the endangered South American marine otters. The final episode will take a fresh look at the state of our planet through the eyes of the top predators and the scientists and conservationists who are fighting to protect them.

Music is by award-winning composer, Steven Price, who won an Academy Award in 2014 for his score to Gravity.

The Hunt (7x60) is produced by Silverback Films for the BBC and co-produced by BBC AMERICA with BBC Worldwide and NDR Naturfilm. The series is executive produced by Alastair Fothergill with Huw Cordey serving as series producer. Tom McDonald is the Commissioning Editor for the BBC. BBC Worldwide is the global distributor of this series.

This past June, BBC AMERICA premiered the special, President Obama Meets David Attenborough, an extraordinary program that featured President Barack Obama interviewing Sir David Attenborough at the White House.

BBC AMERICA delivers U.S. audiences high-quality, innovative and intelligent programming. Established in 1998, it has been the launch pad for talent embraced by American mainstream pop culture, including Ricky Gervais, Gordon Ramsay, Graham Norton, and successful programming formats including ground-breaking non-scripted television like Top Gear and top-rated science-fiction like Doctor Who. A joint venture between BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, and AMC Networks, BBC AMERICA has attracted both critical acclaim and major awards including four Emmy(R) Awards, five Golden Globes(R) and 12 Peabody Awards. The channel attracts one of cable's most affluent and educated audiences and is available on cable and satellite TV in nearly 80 million homes.
