Join maverick filmmakers Robert Rodriguez and Michael Mann as they look back at Mann's remarkable career in this hour-long special filmed at Mann's Santa Monica, California mixing stages. In this revealing interview, quintessential American filmmaker Michael Mann reveals what first inspired him to become a director and how he transitioned from writing for television to directing feature films. The two also discuss Mann's work in fascinating detail, tracking the development of the director's trademark cinematic form, quest for authenticity and his unique approach to working with actors (including what Rodriguez calls "the Michael Mann Immersion Experience"). Mann also reveals in-depth details about his discussions with serial killer Dennis Wayne Wallace while preparing Manhunter.

"El Rey Network Presents: The Director's Chair" is a series of hour-long specials featuring the industry's most cutting edge directors as they engage in a revealing and unexpected exchange about the world of filmmaking. The series provides access to one-on-one interviews between Rodriguez and some of cinema's most iconic filmmakers. Past guests have included John Carpenter, Francis Ford Coppola, Guillermo del Toro, Robert Zemeckis, Luis Valdez, and Quentin Tarantino.
