WE tv DEVELOPING NEW UNSCRIPTED SERIES FOCUSED ON "BASKETBALL MOMS"
Series Will Follow Five Mothers Who Have Found Friendship And Drama While Sacrificing Everything For Their NBA-Hopeful Sons
NEW YORK, NY - November 17, 2015 - WE tv announced today that it is developing a new one-hour unscripted series called "Basketball Moms" (working title) focused on five Houston-area mothers whose sons play on rival youth basketball teams and dream of making it to the NBA. The mothers are all distinct personalities who bond and clash and find true friendship against the backdrop of being willing to do anything to help their sons succeed.
"Any show focused on parents, kids and a shared activity has the right ingredients for high drama. Add in the potential of an NBA career and the transformational impact of that on both player and family and you take things to a whole other level," said Marc Juris, WE tv president. "We're excited about this show because we know we've found the right parents and players to fully represent this journey in a way that will totally entertain and captivate WE tv viewers."
"Basketball Moms" includes a range of unforgettable real life characters, from the single mom to the pot stirrer, the coach's wife to the party girl. Each has a unique story that is all their own, with two things in common - their mutual friendship and shared dreams for their sons. Basketball isn't just a hobby for these families, it's a way of life that comes at a very high price.
The show is produced by A. Smith & Co. Productions. Arthur Smith, Kent Weed, Frank Sinton and Christmas Rini serve as executive producers.
WE tv is continuing to build momentum and ratings growth on the strength of new and returning originals. In 2015 year-to-date, the network is a top 10 fastest-growing cable network in prime time among both adults 25-54 and women 25-54. "L.A. Hair" just completed a fourth season that was the highest-rated in show history, averaging more than one million viewers per episode, fan favorites "Marriage Boot Camp: Reality Stars" and "Kendra on Top" just completed respective seasons that also saw record-breaking ratings.
