BIG LITTLE LIES (HBO; W: David E. Kelley; D: Jean-Marc Vallee) - Adam Scott and Laura Dern have both signed onto the limited series, based on Liane Moriarty's book of the same name about "three mothers (Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley) of kindergartners whose apparently perfect lives unravel to the point of murder." He'll play Ed Mackenzie, "the stable and loving husband to Madeline (Witherspoon) whose approach is to play it safe." Dern then is set as Renata Klein, "a powerful career woman and anti-bullying crusader who is at the center of schoolyard politics on and off the playground." (THR.com)

JOB SQUAD, THE (ABC, New!) - Stephnie Weir ("The Millers") is developing a new project at the Alphabet based on the U.K. comedy "The Job Lot," about "an unemployment office in Burlington, VT, with Weir starring as Trish, the office manager who heads up a staff of colorful characters doing their best to turn Un-Employment into Fun-Employment." CBS Television Studios-based Amigos de Garcia and Big Talk Productions are behind the half-hour, which has a penalty attached. Weir, Greg Garcia, Kenton Allen and Matthew Justice then are the executive producers. (Deadline.com)
