ARMAGEDDON LETTERS, THE (Showtime, New!) - James Blight and Janet M. Lang's book, subtitled "Kennedy, Khrushchev, Castro in the Cuban Missile Crisis," is being developed as a four-hour limited series at the pay channel. Phil Alden Robinson (The Sum of All Fears) is set to write and direct the potential project, which will "chronicle the buildup to the Cuban Missile Crisis when the world teetered on the edge of nuclear destruction." Albert S. Ruddy, Mike Medavoy, Benjamin Anderson, Todd Martens and Alexandra Ruddy are the executive producers for Ruddy Productions. (Deadline.com)
BLACK CALHOUNS, THE (ABC, New!) - Gail Lumet Buckley's book - "the epic saga of Buckley's family, detailing the experiences of an extraordinary African American clan from the beginning of Reconstruction through the civil rights movement" - is being eyed as a mini-series at the Alphabet. ABC Signature is behind the project, with Martin Chase Productions' Debra Martin Chase and Howard Rosenman executive producing and Amy Lumet and Charles Pugliese receiving producing credits. Buckley herself will serve as a consultant. (Deadline.com)

Kat Graham has revealed her upcoming eighth season on "The Vampire Diaries" will be her last (USMagazine.com); Seth Meyers will appear as himself on the midseason premiere of "The Mindy Project" (TVLine.com); John Simm has been cast as "the mysterious benefactor behind Ben/Christopher (Peter Krause) and Margot (Sonya Walger)" on "The Catch" (Variety.com); Amazon's TV sequel to "Galaxy Quest" has been put on hold following the death of Alan Rickman (Nerdist.com); and Josh Friedman is spearheading a small screen take on Hugh Howey's "Beacon 23" for Studio 8 (Variety.com).
