The Heroes of "Everest Rescue" Risk Life and Limb to Save Adventurers' Lives at the Top of the World in New Series from Discovery Networks International and Discovery Channel/US

Harrowing and Thrilling Six-Part Series from Production Company betty Set to Premiere Later this Year

One year after the earthquake that claimed thousands of lives and subsequent avalanche that took 22 lives on Everest, climbers have again returned to the highest mountain in the world. And the daring helicopter pilots who tried to rescue so many and who stayed to rebuild are again saving lives.

This year, hundreds of climbers and adventurers and accompanying Sherpas tried to scale Everest. It's dangerous, it's difficult and it's death-defying - for the lucky. With the margin of error between life and death so fine, the fate of even the most experienced climbers and Sherpas rests in the hands of the world's most elite band of helicopter pilots. With this season just drawing to a close, there have been hundreds of calls for help. It's not only one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet, but the emotional toll it takes on the personal lives of the pilots is unparalleled.

In EVEREST RESCUE (wt), a 6x60' series from production house betty, Discovery Networks International and Discovery Channel/US will transport audiences to one of the world's most beautiful and most dangerous places. Everest's elite, multinational search and rescue helicopter teams take on the daily responsibility of saving those who are injured on the most dangerous mountain range in the world. This series will provide some of the most exclusive, privileged and in-depth access ever to the fearless pilots and medical units who respond to an overwhelming amount of emergencies.

The production team was on the ground exactly one year after the earthquake that devastated the region in 2015, and witnessed how the rescue teams responded as Everest re-opened to climbers, capturing never-before-seen footage. The series will air later this year across Discovery Networks International's factual networks in more than 220 countries and territories, including the US.

"Taking viewers to remarkable places with remarkable access has been core to the Discovery mission. With this powerful series, we explore dramatic new physical and emotional territory," said Marjorie Kaplan, President of Content, Discovery Networks International. "We are honored that these men and women who risk their own lives to help others in the world's harshest and most unforgiving terrain have allowed our cameras into their world."

Helen Hawken is the commissioner for EVEREST RESCUE (wt), and Liz Brach is the executive producer for Discovery Networks International, and David Harrison is the executive producer for betty. Discovery Channel/US is the co-producer.
