INVESTIGATION DISCOVERY PEELS BACK DARK AND SECRET LAYERS TO REVEAL "DREW PETERSON: AN AMERICAN MURDER MYSTERY"

-- Produced in Partnership with American Media, Inc., Jupiter Entertainment and Weinstein Television, ID Presents a Two-Hour Special Premiere from Record-Breaking Franchise on Sunday, August 27 at 9/8c --

(Beverly Hills, Calif.) - On October 28, 2007, 23-year-old mother of four, Stacy Peterson, vanishes without a trace from her sleepy suburban Chicago home. All eyes turn to her seemingly upstanding husband, police sergeant Drew Peterson, who publicly protests his innocence and swears Stacy left him for another man. Now, 10 years after Stacy's suspicious disappearance, Investigation Discovery (ID) delves into the dark and secret life of Drew Peterson, his short-lived marriage to Stacy, and the mysterious and questionable circumstances surrounding the death of his previous wife, Kathleen Savio, in DREW PETERSON: AN AMERICAN MURDER MYSTERY. The latest installment of ID's breakout "AN AMERICAN MURDER MYSTERY" franchise, presented in partnership with Weinstein Television, Jupiter Entertainment and American Media, Inc. (AMI), DREW PETERSON: AN AMERICAN MURDER MYSTERY unravels the twisted web of lies, corruption and violence behind one of the most fascinating missing persons' cases in recent history. The two-hour world-premiere special airs Sunday, August 27 starting at 9/8c, exclusively on ID.

"Drew Peterson is the ultimate villain - posing as a concerned husband, community man and officer of the law - when, in fact, he was a monster hiding in plain sight," said Henry Schleiff, Group President of Investigation Discovery, American Heroes Channel and Destination America. "There are still so many unanswered questions surrounding what really happened to Stacy Peterson, and while you may think you know everything about this story, we are eager to bring our viewers a deeper, more thorough exploration of this tremendously tragic case."

"ID's partnership with American Media, Inc., The Weinstein Company and Jupiter Entertainment continues to deliver for the viewer," said Dylan Howard, Chief Content Officer and Vice President of American Media, Inc. "Drew Peterson is the latest installment of our programming, directly leveraging the world-class reporting of our titles, editors and journalists. This unprecedented access delivers new revelations, and provides the definitive look inside the trail of carnage Peterson left in his wake."

DREW PETERSON: AN AMERICAN MURDER MYSTERY features all-new and exclusive interviews with those closest to the case, including Stacy's sister Cassandra Cales and her aunt, Candace Aikin. Other notable interviews include Sue Doman, Kathleen's sister; Neil Schori, Drew and Stacy's pastor; Jim Glasgow, Will County State's attorney who was later the target of a murder-for-hire, coordinated by Drew; Larry Blum, forensic pathologist who re-examined Kathleen's body and determined her death to be a homicide; and Joel Brodsky and Steve Greenberg, criminal defense attorneys who represented Drew in court.

The two-hour special was created by the same team that produced the record-breaking ID series JONBENET: AN AMERICAN MURDER MYSTERY and CASEY ANTHONY: AN AMERICAN MURDER MYSTERY.

ABOUT THE CASE

In October of 2007, Stacy Peterson vanishes without a trace from her suburban Chicago home. While investigating Stacy's disappearance, police dig further into her police officer husband, Drew, who maintains his innocence and claims to have no involvement in the disappearance of his fourth wife. Despite his public protest that Stacy ran off with a younger lover, investigators discover that Drew may be harboring a dark and secret past. Years earlier, Drew's previous wife Kathleen Savio died under suspicious circumstances, and police are concerned that Drew may know more about Stacy than he's letting on.

With news of Stacy's disappearance blitzing the national media, Drew appears on countless television and radio shows proclaiming his innocence. His cavalier attitude about his missing wife paired with his seeming enjoyment of the media attention concerns many viewers, including the family of Kathleen who remained vigilant in their belief that Kathleen's death was not an accident, as previously determined.

Seizing on renewed interest in the case, Kathleen's family requests her body be exhumed and re-examined by local authorities. Upon a second forensic evaluation, the chief medical examiner determines Kathleen's death was, in fact, a homicide due to the significant bruises and scrapes on her body that were not previously reported. Shifting their focus to catching Kathleen's killer, investigators dig further into Drew and eventually hit the jackpot when Drew and Stacy's pastor, Reverend Neil Schori, comes forth with information that Stacy had helped Drew with his alibi the night of Kathleen's disappearance. Drew was formally charged for Kathleen's homicide in 2009 and was found guilty of premeditated murder in 2012.

While serving the first of his 38 years in prison, Drew makes headlines once again when he solicits a hit on Will County State's Attorney Jim Glasgow. Drew confided in a fellow inmate his plot to hire a hitman to kill Glasgow, who he claims was obstructing his appeals and attempts for early release. The inmate informs police of Drew's plans, and Drew is convicted of soliciting a murder-for-hire and given 40 additional years in jail.
