SCIENCE CHANNEL JOURNEYS DEEPER INTO THE INNER WORKINGS OF THE COSMOS IN A NEW SEASON OF LONGEST RUNNING SPACE SERIES "HOW THE UNIVERSE WORKS" PREMIERING JANUARY 9 AT 10PM ET/PT

Premiere Episode Questions the Existence of Black Holes

(New York) - Science Channel's longest running and most popular space series is returning in January to delve deeper into the cosmic exploration of our planet, Solar System, and galaxy. HOW THE UNIVERSE WORKS is back for its sixth season as astronomers and experts examine the building blocks and inner workings of our universe to better understand outer space and how its many puzzle pieces fit together. The new season of HOW THE UNIVERSE WORKS begins Tuesday, January 9 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

From black holes and supernovas to neutron stars and dark energy, space contains matter and substances that can be studied to make sense of the vast, complex, and mysterious landscape. HOW THE UNIVERSE WORKS will show the objects and occurrences that have shaped our universe and will propel it forward. The season six premiere episode seeks to comprehend enigmatic black holes - mysterious, unseen objects that break the laws of physics and create mind-bending paradoxes. Traveling to the edge of scientific understanding, the episode seeks the elusive answer to the question of whether black holes are real or not.

Among other stories investigated this season are the dark and violent past of the early days of our Solar System; 'spacetime', the 4-D substance that controls the flow of time and matter in our universe; the often-forgotten planet of Mercury; the hundreds of tiny Dwarf Planets that thrive in our cosmic neighborhood; and quasars, the cosmic enigmas that kill either kill galaxies or maintain them.

"HOW THE UNIVERSE WORKS looks closely at that puzzle piece that make up our universe in an attempt to answer complex questions about black holes, dark energy, and more," said Wyatt Channell, Executive Producer, Science Channel.

HOW THE UNIVERSE WORKS is produced for Science Channel by Pioneer Productions. For Pioneer Productions, Stephen Marsh is Executive Producer. For Science Channel, Wyatt Channell is Executive Producer.
