"Narcos" Star Wagner Moura to Play Famed UN Diplomat in Netflix Biopic

Synopsis: The untitled film tells the true story of Sergio Vieira de Mello (Wagner Moura), a Brazilian-born UN diplomat. Some thought of him as a "crisis junkie" who relished the chance to drop into the most intractable situations on the planet while others considered him a diplomatic superhero whose charm, negotiation skills and good looks enabled him to save countless lives. Sergio rose through the ranks to become the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. Before he was tragically killed in a terrorist bombing in 2003, de Mello was widely considered to be the next UN Secretary General. As the world watches the dramatic efforts to save de Mello's life in the hours after an attack in Baghdad ordered by Osama bin Laden, he is forced to confront the dubious choices he has made during his personal life and career as the UN's "go-to man" for the hottest of hotspots in the world.

Adapted from Pulitzer Prize-winner Samantha Power's (former United States Ambassador to the United Nations) groundbreaking biography, "Chasing the Flame: Sergio Vieira de Mello and the Fight to Save the World."
