BBC AMERICA, THE DEFINITIVE HOME OF NATURE PROGRAMMING ON U.S. TELEVISION, WILL LAUNCH NEW 'MICRO-NET,' DEDICATED TO THIS CONTENT

BBC AMERICA's "Project Awe" (wt) To Launch In Fourth Quarter With More Than 2000 Hours Of Iconic Nature Programming

BBC AMERICA's Project Awe Will Be the Exclusive U.S. Television Home to the Planet Earth Collection and the Next Installments of BBC Landmark Natural History Series Including Frozen Planet II and Planet Earth III

New York - April 8, 2019 - Solidifying its position as the definitive home of the most iconic nature programming on U.S. television, BBC AMERICA today announced the creation of BBC AMERICA's Project Awe (wt), set to launch in the fourth quarter of this year. Every Saturday for 24 hours, BBC AMERICA will transform into Project Awe, a brand-new television destination for premium nature and wildlife content designed to inspire, connect and make viewers feel the awe. BBC AMERICA is the co-producer, exclusive U.S. broadcaster, and first-window platform for the next installments of BBC natural history landmarks in the U.S., including Sir David Attenborough's next series One Planet: Seven Worlds, Frozen Planet II and Planet Earth III.

Additionally, with more than 2000 hours of nature programming annually, BBC AMERICA's Project Awe is the exclusive U.S. television home to the Planet Earth collection and other iconic landmark series from the BBC Natural History Unit, including Planet Earth and II, The Blue Planet and II, Frozen Planet, Life, Africa, Dynasties, and One Planet: Seven Worlds.

In addition to the commitment to flagship nature and wildlife content, BBC AMERICA will visually transform the look and feel of BBC AMERICA to Project Awe for 24 hours, every Saturday beginning at 6:00 am, 52 weeks of the year. Project Awe will also host special events on the broader BBC AMERICA schedule throughout the year culminating in a new landmark series each year.

"As the past, present and future U.S. home to this iconic BBC nature and wildlife programming, we know that epic documentaries about this spellbinding blue planet we all share pulls people from all backgrounds and all ages together in a transcendent way that's unlike anything else, which is why we have been 'all in,' on this groundbreaking programming for many years, and will continue to be for many more to come," said Sarah Barnett, president of the entertainment networks group for AMC Networks. "It is a privilege to be a home for experiences that make us feel part of something bigger than ourselves and remind us of our profound connectedness. BBC AMERICA's Project Awe is created as a place for audiences to gather together and feel something bigger than themselves."

Studies have shown that connection with the natural world reduces stress, anxiety and mental fatigue. Social psychologists have found that viewing awe-inspiring nature videos can provoke potent feelings of well-being and connectedness, inspiring viewers to sense themselves as part of a vast, great, and meaningful reality.

BBC AMERICA recently announced the renewal of its partnership with the BBC to co-produce the next installments of the two most iconic natural history series ever - Planet Earth III and Frozen Planet II as part of a broader deal that cements BBC AMERICA as the U.S. home of the BBC's biggest natural history content over the next five years. Coming next for BBC AMERICA is One Planet: Seven Worlds, which has gone further than any other BBC series to capture the spectacular, unseen and unexpected stories of Earth's seven Continents. The series will be narrated by Emmy(R)-winning broadcaster Sir David Attenborough.
