BLOOD RELATIVE (FOX) - Melissa Leo is set to topline the drama, lifting the cast-contingency on its pilot order. Leo's Lou Kelly "is... difficult. With an IQ in the 190s, Lou wrote the book on genetic genealogy and can trace anyone if she has a viable tissue sample to play with - John and Jane Does, errant husbands, long-lost children, murderers in hiding, anyone with a secret life. But Lou has a habit of burning bridges as she goes. Sarcastic, sardonic, irritable and confrontational, she's the smartest person in the room with no time to explain her methods to average folks. Except her little brother, John. It's through working with her brother to solve the toughest of cases that secrets from their past will start to bubble to the surface. Threatening their relationship and their father's legacy as a respected lieutenant, community leader and all around good guy. And maybe that's exactly what will set Lou free." (Deadline.com)
CURSE, THE (Showtime, New!) - Nathan Fielder is set to team with Benny and Josh Safdie for a half-hour comedy which "explores how an alleged curse disturbs the relationship of a newly married couple who star in Flipanthropy, their troubled HGTV show." The project, which has a pilot order, will be written by Fielder and Benny Safdie with Fielder playing the husband and Benny Safdie as the producer of the HGTV show. All three will executive produce however the Safdie brothers are not directing. (Deadline.com)
DEBRIS (NBC) - Norbert Leo Butz is bound for the sci-fi drama pilot as Craig Maddox, "a CIA operative and Bryan's handler who knows where all the bodies are buried." (Deadline.com)
DMZ (HBO Max) - Freddy Miyares is the latest cast in pilot for the DC Comics adaptation as Skel, "the ruthless triggerman of one of the DMZ's most powerful gangs, led by Parco Delgado (Benjamin Bratt). He is also a talented graffiti artist with a profound passion for art, which serves as his lasting connection to his humanity in a world where survival is predicated on power." (Deadline.com)
HOLDOUT, THE (Hulu, New!) - Oscar-winner Graham Moore has sold a small screen take on his latest novel to the streaming service. The project, which has a penalty attached, comes from ABC Signature and Sarah Timberman and Carl Beverly's Timberman-Beverly Productions. The drama revolves around Maya Seale: "Ten years ago, she served on a jury in the decade's most sensational murder trial. Now, having become a lawyer, she reunites with the other jurors for a true crime docuseries about the crime... and when one of her fellow jurors is murdered, Maya must prove her own innocence by getting to the bottom of a case that's far from closed." KUNG FU (The CW) - Tzi Ma and Kheng Hua Tan are the first to be cast in the reboot series pilot as "the [series lead's] father, Jin Chen, and mother Mei-Li - husband-and-wife restaurateurs whose secrets threaten to destroy their lives just as they deal with the return of their estranged daughter." MARVEL'S THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER (Disney+) - Carl Lumbly has been cast in the upcoming Marvel Studios series in a yet-to-be-revealed role. (Deadline.com)
REBEL (ABC) - Tamala Jones has signed onto the Katey Sagal-led drama pilot as Lana, "Rebel's (Sagal) former sister-in-law, Cassidy's doting aunt - and Benji's (James Lesure) sister - Lana does not suffer fools gladly. Aware that Ziggie is in a bad place, and inclined to help her niece over the rough patches, Lana is a recovering addict herself - and though she's employed by Rebel as her investigator, she occasionally turns her well-honed sense of scrutiny in Rebel's direction." THIRTYSOMETHING(ELSE) (ABC) - Auden Thornton is the latest bound for the revival series pilot as Brittany Weston, "the daughter of Elliot Weston (Timothy Busfield) and Nancy Weston (Patty Wettig)." Thornton's Brittany Weston "is smart and passionate with a quiet but wicked sense of humor. Brittany is an empath - in training to be a therapist - who could use a little therapy herself. Determined to be good and inclined to be a peacemaker, she nonetheless has begun to act out in various transgressive ways. At the moment, she's involved in an on-again/off-again relationship with Angelica - with whom she recently broke up with but can't seem to stop loving or seeing." (Deadline.com)
