NEW YORK, NY - JULY 23, 2020 -- SYFY announces SYFY WIRE AFTER DARK, a new interactive special premiering Saturday, August 1 at 11PM ET/PT, that will take viewers inside the weird and wonderful world of nerd fandom, from comic books and superheroes to wacky water toys and favorite summer movies. Hosted by Jackie Jennings and her talking cat sidekick, Mr. Scribbles, the 45-minute special is the first NBCUniversal show to feature NBCUniversal Checkout, the company's universal shopping cart that turns any piece of content into a shoppable moment. Dark Horse Comics, goodr sunglasses, and DC licensee Graphitti Designs have signed on as retail partners, offering viewers the chance to shop specially curated products throughout the show, bringing them closer to the SYFY content they love.

"SYFY WIRE AFTER DARK not only gives our passionate viewers a chance to learn and geek out about the coolest genre stuff of summer, but also connects them directly with many of the products they see on screen," shared Sandy Deane, Senior Vice President, SYFY WIRE. "Being the first brand to utilize the NBCUniversal Checkout experience is groundbreaking for SYFY, giving us opportunities to integrate shopping and product discovery in the future."

SYFY WIRE AFTER DARK will use both NBCUniversal Checkout and ShoppableTV so viewers can instantly buy what they see in the program, including graphic novels from some of Dark Horse Comics' most popular properties, The Witcher, Umbrella Academy, or the soon-to-be SYFY series Resident Alien, to goodr sunglasses' limited edition "Wonder Woman 1984" sunglasses, to "Superman," "Dark Nights: Death Metal" or "The Sandman" products from Graphitti Designs. Viewers simply scan the NBCU Code displayed on screen with their smartphone camera, and are taken to a seamless, native Checkout experience to complete their purchase.

The shoppable elements featured within SYFY WIRE AFTER DARK will span across the network's television, digital, editorial and social platforms. The network also plans to extend the NBCUniversal Checkout experience beyond the special to a weekly shoppable editorial series on SYFYWIRE.com. The shoppable articles will be curated in an online hub, so fans can shop their favorite gear alongside their favorite content.

"The SYFY audience embodies fandom, and we're thrilled to bring NBCUniversal Checkout to market for the first time on the network," said Josh Feldman, Executive Vice President, Head of Marketing & Advertising Creative at NBCUniversal. "With this special, we're creating an interactive pop culture moment for fans by blending engaging content with a seamless shopping experience, all in partnership with Dark Horse Comics, goodr sunglasses, and Graphitti Designs."

The SYFY WIRE AFTER DARK special airs as part of SYFY FAN FEST - a week-long celebration of fandom airing July 25 to August 2, jam-packed with exciting new SYFY specials, series and movies. Among them: the world premiere original documentary, TODD MCFARLANE: LIKE HELL I WON'T (Saturday, July 25 at 11PM); the anticipated Season 4 premiere of cult fave WYNONNA EARP (Sunday, July 26 at 10PM); a special extended episode of the new hit series SYFY WIRE'S THE GREAT DEBATE (Thursday, July 30 at 11PM); super awesome movie marathons, and more.
