The riveting and unpredictable new true crime docuseries

THE SUSPECT

Exclusive U.S. Premiere on Sundance Now on Tuesday, August 18, 2020

AMC Networks' streaming service Sundance Now features the Exclusive U.S. Premiere of the bewildering new true crime series THE SUSPECT on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 with a new episode available every following Tuesday. The top-rated CBC 4-part documentary involves alleged police misconduct, media frenzy and wrongful conviction. When millionaire Richard Oland of Moosehead Brewing fame suffered a gruesome 45 blows to his head, neck, and hands, his son Dennis immediately became the police's prime and only suspect. The case turned one of Canada's wealthiest families into the cast of a real-life soap opera. The riveting series was directed by Deborah Wainwright, who was granted intimate access to the media-wary family. The series tracks the challenges her team faced navigating the incredible twists and turns that arose during this high-profile case. Sundance Now is AMC Networks' premiere streaming service for engrossing true crime, heart-stopping dramas and fiercely intelligent thrillers from around the world.

It was a blood bath. On July 6, 2011, Richard Oland suffered a gruesome 45 blows to his head neck, and hands. A crime like this would have been big news almost anywhere, but in New Brunswick, it was huge. The victim was one of the elites. His son, Dennis, quickly became the prime suspect. Dennis was the last known person to see his father alive, he was deeply in debt, and blood and his father's DNA were found on his clothing. After years of widespread schadenfreude, alleged police misconduct, trial by media, and a jury pool contaminated by a constant barrage of pre-trial publicity, Dennis was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. But he has always insisted he is innocent, and in October of 2016, a retrial was ordered. Since his release, the documentary crew had intimate and exclusive access to the defense, the accused, his family, and investigators, documenting the road to retrial. They follow unexplored leads and dig into new evidence in a search for the truth. Capturing every moment until the unpredictable conclusion at the trial's end.
