CONNECTING (NBC) - The ensemble comedy series has cast Shakina Nayfack, Keith Powell, Jill Knox, Ely Henry and Preacher Lawson. Nayfack will play Ellis, "a pragmatic, type-A and a huge Clippers fan"; with real-life husband-and-wife Powell and Knox as "husband and wife Garrett and Michelle, who are thriving in quarantine"; Henry as Rufus, "paranoid and conspiracy minded, he's more comfortable online than off"; and Lawson as portray Ben, whose "girlfriend broke up with him just before the pandemic started and he is debating whether to take her back." E! NEWS/IN THE ROOM/POP OF THE MORNING (E!) - The cable channel has pulled the plug on all three of its New York-based entertainment news series, all of which have been shut down since the coronavirus pandemic. The company's news division will be centralized in Los Angeles going forward under "Daily Pop" and "Nightly Pop." (Variety.com)
HIGH FIDELITY (Hulu) - The streaming service has axed the Zoë Kravitz-led comedy after one season. (Deadline.com)
NASTY BITCHES (ABC, New!) - Zahir McGhee has scored a production commitment, with a seven-figure penalty attached, from the Alphabet for a new drama in which "20 years after drama and in-fighting broke them up at the height of their fame, a female hip-hop group from the 90's find themselves back in the public eye. Estranged and out-of-touch, mothers in their forties reunite for a chance to recapture their fame and the friendships they thought were gone forever." Windpower Entertainment's Sabrina Wind will also executive produce for ABC Studios. (Deadline.com)
NINE PERFECT STRANGERS (Hulu) - Regina Hall is the latest to board the limited series' ever-expanding ensemble as Carmel, one of the nine perfect strangers. (Deadline.com)
OVAL, THE (BET) - Filming began yesterday on the show's sophomore season at Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta. (Deadline.com)
SIREN (Freeform) - The cable channel has nixed its mermaid drama after three seasons. (Deadline.com)
STING, THE (Apple TV+, New!) - Adam Perlman has scored a straight-to-series order from the streaming service for a new drama in which "a frustrated Canadian detective who takes on a decades-old cold case in hopes of winning a confession and becoming a hero. The case quickly spirals out of control when the undercover cop attempts an elaborate sting, adding playacting cops, taxpayer resources, and an unexpected friendship with the peculiar target." Team Downey's Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey are also on board to executive produce the project, with Michael Lista - whose Toronto Life article serves as its basis - as a co-executive producer. T.O.T.S. (Disney Channel) - The network has commissioned a third season of the animated series in advance of its second season launch this Friday, August 7. (Deadline.com)
