FLEABAG (Amazon) - Director Harry Bradbeer has signed a first-look deal with Amazon Studios. There he'll develop new series projects for the company. (Deadline.com)
I AM NOT OKAY WITH THIS/SOCIETY, THE (Netflix) - The streaming service has opted not to proceed with second seasons of both series. The news comes despite scripts reportedly being completed for both shows. "We've made the difficult decision not to move forward with second seasons of The Society and I Am Not Okay With This," Netflix said in a statement. "We're disappointed to have to make these decisions due to circumstances created by COVID, and we are grateful to these creators, including: Jonathan Entwistle, Christy Hall, Shawn Levy, Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry at 21 Laps Entertainment for I Am Not Okay With This; Chris Keyser, Marc Webb and Pavlina Hatoupis for The Society; and all the writers, casts and crews who worked tirelessly to make these shows for our members around the world." PENNY DREADFUL: CITY OF ANGELS (Showtime) - The pay channel has canceled the series following its freshman run. "Showtime has decided not to move forward with another season of 'Penny Dreadful: City of Angels,'" the network said in a statement. "We would like to thank executive producers John Logan, Michael Aguilar and the entire cast and crew for their outstanding work on this project." (Variety.com)
UNTITLED LIZ BRIXIUS PROJECT (FOX, New!) - Liz Brixius has set up a potential drama at the network which "revolves a friendly book club of suburban moms that becomes the perfect feeding ground for a charismatic new neighbor with a penchant for blackmail." The project, which has a penalty attached, is based on Joshilyn Jackson's bestselling suspense novel "Never Have I Ever." Universal Television and FOX Entertainment are co-producing with Appian Way's Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson executive producing alongside Brixius and Jackson serving as a producer. WHY YOU WILL MARRY THE WRONG PERSON (ABC, New!) - Matt Tarses has sold a one-hour dramedy to the Alphabet which "explores multiple possible relationships in parallel universes, as each of the two leads, on the eve of marriage, wonders "what if?"" Freddie Highmore and Claire Londy of Alfresco Pictures also serve as executive producers for Sony Pictures Television. The project is based on Alain de Botton's New York Times opinion article of the same name. (Deadline.com)
WILL YOU MERRY ME? (Bounce TV) - Brandon Jay McLaren has been cast in the holiday movie as Daniel English, "an energetic pastor who returns to his hometown church and falls for a parishioner.
