9-1-1/9-1-1: LONE STAR/AMERICAN CRIME STORY/POSE (Various) - Production is set to kick off next month on said Ryan Murphy Productions series. Flagship "9-1-1" will be first out of the gate on October 5; followed by "Pose" on October 7; "9-1-1: Lone Star" on October 12; and "American Crime Story" on October 13. (Deadline.com)
DARK CRYSTAL, THE: AGE OF RESISTANCE (Netflix) - The streaming service has canceled the Emmy-winning series after one season. (Deadline.com)
DESERT PEOPLE (Amazon, New!) - Natasha Lyonne and Alia Shawkat are set to team for a half-hour series at the streaming service about "a family of Iraqi immigrants who run a gentleman's club in Palm Springs. Shawkat will star as the parents' adult daughter in LA who is coming to terms with her sexuality and identity as a first generation American." The duo created the series and will executive produce alongside Animal Pictures' Maya Rudolph, Danielle Renfrew Behrens and Dianne McGunigle. (Variety.com)
DOPESICK (Hulu) - Phillipa Soo and Jake McDorman are the latest additions to the Michael Keaton-led limited series as Amber, "a sales rep with Purdue Pharma who is part of the first team to sell OxyContin"; and John Brownlee, "a US Attorney overseeing the case against Purdue Pharma that focused on the marketing practices surrounding OxyContin," respectively. Peter Sarsgaard, Kaitlyn Dever and Will Poulter also star. (Variety.com)
MILLENNIALS (UMC) - Kyle Massey, Keraun Harris, Philip Bolden, Aaron Grady and Teresa Celeste are all set to star in the multi-camera comedy, which "is centered around the lives of four 20-something roommates and their neighbor across the hall as they navigate the chaos of being young and finding success in LA." Massey plays Omar, "a business student with dreams of taking over the corporate world"; with Harris as Jaheem, "a personal trainer who's attractive clientele doubles as his pool of dating conquests"; Bolden as Travis, "an insecure YouTuber who thrives off of public attention"; Grady as Todd, "a college dropout who struggles with his sense of responsibility and remaining gainfully employed"; and Celeste as Mercedes, "an aspiring actress from Atlanta who often serves as the only voice of reason for guys." Also cast in unspecified roles are Tanjareen Thomas, Buddy Lewis and Katherine Florence. Production is scheduled to begin this week for an early 2021 premiere. (Deadline.com)
VENERY OF SAMANTHA BIRD, THE (Starz, New!) - Writer Anna Moriarty and director Jessica Yu have set up a potential drama at the pay channel in which "lonely artist Samantha Bird is visiting family in New England one fateful Thanksgiving when she re-meets her childhood sweetheart and falls headlong into a seemingly perfect storybook romance. But underneath the fever dream lurks a more unsettling interpretation of this affair." Pacesetter Productions' Jessica Rhoades will also executive produce for Lionsgate Television and Paramount Television Studios. (Variety.com)
