UNTITLED DAN AHDOOT PROJECT (ABC, New!) - Dan Ahdoot is developing a single-camera comedy at the Alphabet about Mohammad "Mo" Al-Hayati, "a young Muslim-American doctor in rural red state America, who struggles to become a trusted pillar of his community despite not knowing anything about how real life works there. Or anywhere." The project is loosely based on a chapter in Ahdoot's upcoming book of essays, "Undercooked: How I Let Food Become My Life Navigator and How Maybe That's A Dumb Way To Live." Vali Chandrasekaran is also on board to executive produce for 20th Television. (Deadline.com)
WESTERN (Freevee) - Anna Konkle has been tapped to star in the half-hour period comedy pilot, which "follows Polly (Konkle), a young high-society woman from Philadelphia who travels out west on a desperate quest for a husband only to discover that she has been catfished by a teenage boy. Now stranded in 1866 Montana, Polly, along with the town's other inhabitants, must find their place in this ever-changing new world, confronting and defying all expectations society has of them along the way." Tony Yacenda is likewise set to direct and executive produce alongside Chris Miller, Phil Lord, Aditya Sood, Lucy Kitada and creator Michelle Morgan. (Deadline.com)
WHEEL OF TIME, THE (Amazon) - Executive producer Justine Juel Gillmer has signed an overall deal with producer Sony Pictures Television. (Deadline.com)
YASUKE LIVE-ACTION SERIES (Netflix, New!) - Omar Sy is in talks to star in a five-part, live-action series at the streamer about "the real-life legend, an African man brought to feudal Japan under enslavement who became the country's first non-Japanese samurai." Nick Jones, Jr. is behind the project, after spearheading the animated take for the service last year. The pair will also executive produce alongside Shawn Levy, Josh Barry, Forest Whitaker and Nina Yang Bongiovi for 21 Laps and Significant Productions. Craig Shreve's upcoming novel "African Samurai" has also been optioned as source material. (THR.com)
