PARAMOUNT+ ANNOUNCES NEW DOCUMENTARY "JUNE," PROFILING MUSIC ICON JUNE CARTER CASH, TO PREMIERE JANUARY 16

Produced by Sandbox Productions, Sony Music Entertainment, and Maxine Productions

November 13, 2023 - Paramount+ today announced that JUNE, a feature-length documentary about country singer/songwriter June Carter Cash, will premiere on the service Tuesday, January 16, 2024, in the U.S. and Canada and on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, in the U.K., Australia, Latin America, Brazil, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Directed by Emmy(R) Award-winner Kristen Vaurio (Going Clear: Scientology & The Prison of Belief), the documentary features rare and never-before-seen archival material that reveals the extraordinary life work of Carter Cash and her iconic entertainment career, alongside interviews with the monumental woman herself, as well as family, admirers, and friends including Dolly Parton, Reese Witherspoon, and Willie Nelson.

Produced by Sandbox Productions, Sony Music Entertainment and Maxine Productions (a part of Sony Pictures Television), JUNE shines an important spotlight on the history of country music and the mark the Carter and Cash families made on the genre before diving into the complex life of the legendary June Carter Cash. The five-time Grammy(R) Award-winning singer, comedian, musician, actor and author has opened for Elvis, appeared onscreen with Robert Duvall and Jane Seymour and co-wrote one of the most recognizable country songs of all time, "Ring of Fire." Perhaps at times overshadowed by her iconic husband Johnny Cash, she now takes center stage.

"I am so honored to have had the opportunity to work with Sandbox Productions, Sony Music Entertainment and Maxine Productions to shine a spotlight on June," said director Kristen Vaurio. "She's a woman whom many people are aware of, but few know much about her remarkable life and her deep contributions to country music. We're thrilled to work with our amazing partners at Paramount+ to bring her into the spotlight, where she belongs."

"I am thrilled to share the full story of my mother's life with the world," said John Carter Cash, the only son of June and Johnny Cash. "Thank you to Sony Music Entertainment and Sandbox Productions for finding a place for it to live and to Paramount+ for giving it a home."

"This film offers a great opportunity to realize that June was a star of television and music from an early age - decades before she became 'Mrs. Johnny Cash,'" said Carlene Carter, June's oldest daughter. "Steeped in the legacy of the Carter Family and as a solo artist, she always was - and, as seen through this film - always will remain a shining star in her own right. While some may not fully be aware of her many talents, influence and just how much she mattered as an entertainer, this lovely documentary offers clear insight for everyone to see the true character and the joy shared."

JUNE is produced by Jason Owen and Josh Matas for Sandbox Productions, Mary Robertson for Maxine Productions, Sarah Olson and Kristen Vaurio. Executive Producers include Tom Mackay and Krista Wegener for Sony Music Entertainment, Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman for Sony Pictures Television, Jean Song and Chandra LaPlume for Sandbox Productions, Bruce Gillmer and Vanessa WhiteWolf for MTV Entertainment Studios, and John Carter Cash and Carlene Carter. The documentary made its world premiere at the DOC NYC Festival on November 12.
