MADRID - 23 January, 2025 - Prime Video will launch Calleja en el espacio, an unprecedented documentary series for Spanish television that will follow renowned explorer and presenter Jesús Calleja in his most ambitious adventure to date: becoming the first Spanish civilian to travel to space. The first part of this unique production, consisting of two episodes, will premiere on Prime Video on 3 February, ahead of its broadcast on Cuatro, and will be available exclusively in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide as part of Prime membership. Prime members in Spain enjoy savings, convenience, and entertainment, all in a single membership for just €4.99/month or best value €49.90/year.
In the first part of Calleja en el espacio, viewers will join Jesús Calleja on an exciting journey that begins with the origins of his space dream and culminates in exploring the future of humanity among the stars. Through encounters with key figures such as astronauts Pedro Duque and Miguel López-Alegría, and visits to iconic locations like the Gran Telescopio Canarias, the documentary series delves into Spanish space initiatives whilst Calleja tackles his upcoming mission on Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket, becoming the next Spaniard to cross the frontier of space. The journey will take him from Blue Origin's facilities near Seattle to NASA's legendary Johnson Space Center in Houston, where he will gain insight into his future space adventure and discovers ambitious plans for humans to return to the Moon and reach Mars.
Viewers will soon be able to experience the historic moment of the launch of Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket carrying Jesús Calleja live on Spanish broadcaster Telecinco. The second part of the documentary series, premiering on Prime Video this spring before airing on Mediaset España, will feature exclusive content from the days leading up to the launch, the flight experience in Texas and Calleja's reactions after making history.
"This project represents the fulfilment of a lifelong dream," said Jesús Calleja. "Travelling to space with Blue Origin is not only a personal adventure, but also a unique opportunity to share with all viewers the excitement, challenges and beauty of seeing our planet from a completely new perspective. Through Calleja en el espacio, I hope viewers will enjoy discovering the fascinating world of space, which is still unknown to many, and join me on this extraordinary adventure."
"Calleja en el espacio is a perfect example of the innovative and transformative content we want to offer our subscribers," added Ricardo Cabornero, Director of Prime Video service in Spain. "This docuseries not only captures an extraordinary feat, but will bring Jesús Calleja's signature spirit of adventure and passion for discovery into millions of homes. Calleja en el espacio is produced in collaboration with Zanskar Producciones and Mediaset España, which Prime Video will offer in streaming. The documentary series is distributed by Mediterráneo Mediaset España Group.
