São Paulo, August 28, 2025 - It's been big news in Rio de Janeiro and across Brazil! Netflix has just released the first images of Rulers of Fortune, the new fiction series that promises to transport audiences into Rio de Janeiro's criminal underbelly. Set in the world of illegal gambling, the production delivers crime, secrets, family drama, and big-name talent including André Lamoglia, Chico Diaz, Giullia Buscaccio, Juliana Paes, Mel Maia, and Xamã.
The all-new images introduce the four central rival families vying for control of the illegal gambling empire. The conflicts intensify amid family dynamics fraught with secrets. The looming legalization of gambling, the interest of a foreign crime syndicate, and the rapid rise of a new contender to the city's throne set the stage for explosive action!
Meet the Families
The Moraes Family
Profeta (André Lamoglia) is the man of the moment. Hailing from the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro, he is the son of Nélio (Adriano Garib) and the brother of Nelinho (Pedro Lamin) and Esqueleto (Ruan Aguiar), an ally of Sombra (Igor Fernandez). A born strategist with a gift for persuasion, Profeta quickly rises through the ranks of the criminal underworld, seeking to carve out a place for himself at the top and attracting the attention of other families - both in love and in gambling.
The Guerra Family
Now part of the elite thanks to the visionary but ailing Jorge Guerra (Roberto Pirillo), the family represents a new generation seeking to modernize the jogo do bicho, but it comes at a cost: intense rivalry, even among its own members. Búfalo (Xamã) takes over the family business with bold ambitions and the support of his wife, Suzana (Giullia Buscaccio). Suzana's sister, Mirna Guerra (Mel Maia), has different plans for the family business, and will stop at nothing to gain power.
The Fernandez Family
Led by boss Galego Fernandez (Chico Diaz), the family represents the old guard of the criminal underworld, with all of its traditions and accomplishments. Alongside his wife Leila (Juliana Paes), his son Santiago (Henrique Barreira), and his brother Xavier (Otávio Muller), the clan strives to maintain power at all costs, even in the face of growing threats and secrets coming from both outside and inside the clan.
The Saad Family
After being ambushed and arrested before even taking over the family business, Renzo (Bruno Mazzeo), heir to the Saad family, waits for his chance to make a comeback, while his uncle Marcinho (Tuca Andrada) takes charge temporarily, acting as intermediary between the kingpins of this criminal underworld, where he wields considerable influence.
Produced by Paranoïd, Rulers of Fortune introduces Netflix Brazil's slate of 'mafia productions', bringing an authentic Rio de Janeiro flavor and touches of melodrama. The series was created by Heitor Dhalia (Criminal Code), Bernardo Barcellos, who also wrote the script, and Bruno Passeri. The directors are Heitor Dhalia, Rafael Miranda Fejes, and Matias Mariani. The show is due to premiere later this year.
