OXYGEN'S "THE DEATH INVESTIGATOR WITH BARBARA BUTCHER" PREMIERES SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 27 AT 9:00 P.M. ET/PT

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - September 4, 2025 - Oxygen, the home of high-quality, true-crime programming, presents the first true-crime series told through the eyes of Barbara Butcher, one of the most seasoned and respected Death Investigators to work in New York. From Wolf Entertainment, Alfred Street Industries and Universal Television Alternative Studio, "The Death Investigator with Barbara Butcher" debuts Saturday, September 27 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on Oxygen.

When a crime occurs, police secure the scene, but the body falls under the jurisdiction of the death investigator, a representative of the medical examiner's office. Having investigated more than 5,500 death scenes over more than 20 years in the field, Butcher unpacks the stories behind some of the most compelling murders of our times, revealing that the keys to solving the case are often contained in the wealth of information held by the crime scene and the body that lies within it. This season details 10 different cases, including a fearless Las Vegas journalist ambushed outside his home, a body dumped in a NYC tunnel revealing shocking forensic contradictions, and a harrowing mission to discover the identity of a victim found in the East River.

A world-renowned expert in medicolegal death investigation, Barbara Butcher, MPH, was the second woman ever hired for the role of death investigator in Manhattan and the first to remain in the position for more than three months. Over the years, she has worked 680 homicides and on some of the most devastating mass disasters of our time, including 9/11, the 2004 Thailand tsunami, the London Underground bombing, and the crash of Flight 587. From her start as a death investigator, Butcher ultimately served as the Chief of Staff at the New York City Office of Chief Medical Examiner.

"The Death Investigator with Barbara Butcher" is produced by Wolf Entertainment, Alfred Street Industries and Universal Television Alternative Studio, a division of Universal Studio Group. Dick Wolf, Tom Thayer, Dan Cutforth, Jane Lipsitz, Nan Strait, Dan Volpe, Maria Lane and Shannon O'Rourke serve as executive producers.
