Two Desperate Souls and One Desperate Choice: 'As You Stood By' Streams November 7
Invited to the 30th Busan International Film Festival's On Screen section, As You Stood By is a new Netflix series about two women who, trapped in a reality so suffocating that only death seems to offer an escape, make the fateful choice to kill - setting off a chain of unexpected events.
Based on Hideo Okuda's novel "Naomi & Kanako," Director Lee Jeong-lim (VIP, The Revenant) presents a striking story of two women who come together in the face of violence and trauma to save each other. Eun-su (Jeogn So-nee) is a competent VIP luxury handler working at a department store. Yet, she harbors trauma from her childhood, having helplessly witnessed her father's violence towards her mother. Meanwhile, Hui-su (Lee You-mi) is Eun-su's best friend. Once a promising writer of children's books, she finds herself trapped by her husband's violent grip on her freedom and life. When Eun-su learns of Hui-su's dire situation, the two friends resort to a drastic measure out of desperation: to kill Hui-su's husband once and for all.
In the newly released teaser, the fragile balance of plotting a fatal act as a last-ditch effort for peace and happiness heightens the suspense of this gripping drama. Hui-su's husband Jin-pyo (Jang Seung-jo) continues to threaten the two friends, while the mysterious market CEO Jin So-baek (Lee Mu-saeng) keeps a watchful presence nearby.
What will lie at the end of this desperate decision to kill? Find out in As You Stood By, premiering at BIFF and streaming on Netflix this November 7.
