Netflix Announces Swedish Crime Series The Case From 'Lupin' Creator George Kay

Netflix today announced The Case, a new Swedish crime series created and written by George Kay (Lupin, Hijack, The Long Shadow). All 5 episodes are directed by Kristoffer Nyholm.

Jakob Oftebro and Peter Andersson have been cast to play the leading roles of Lead Investigator Thomas and ex-detective Alfred, Thomas' estranged father. Additional cast includes Electra Hallman, Alexander Abdallah, Henrik Norlén, Lisette T. Pagler, Magnus Krepper, Irina Björklund, Anders Mossling and Anna Maria Käll.

The series is a B-Reel Films and Observatory Pictures production in association with New Pictures. Production recently wrapped in Stockholm, Sweden.

The Case will launch globally on Netflix in 2026.

Logline: As endless summer takes its hold over Stockholm, a different kind of darkness sets in. Clean cut, highly regarded Lead Investigator Thomas Berg has a serial killer on his hands. With the brutal murderer targeting his police colleagues, Thomas makes a desperate gamble, turning to a once well-regarded but now out of favour, misanthropic ex-detective for help. His estranged father, Alfred. If they're to stand any chance of protecting their fellow police officers, they must put their differences aside and find a way to work together. Only then will they catch one of the worst killers in Sweden's history.

Producers: Johannes Åhlund and Ulf Synnerholm for B-Reel Films

Executive producers: George Kay, Kristoffer Nyholm, Willow Grylls, Matt Sandford

Episode writers: Aron Levander, Emilie Robson

Swedish adaptation: Aron Levander

Creator, Writer, and Executive producer George Kay said: "I'm thrilled to be working on The Case with the Nordic Netflix team, New Pictures and B-Reel Films - the best possible partners in crime. They have assembled a wonderful cast and crew, all under the leadership of director Kristoffer Nyholm. The Case is part father-son love story, part criminal thriller. A series that brings darkness... even to the endless Stockholm Summer."

Jenny Stjernströmer Björk, Netflix said: "George Kay has an extraordinary gift for crafting suspenseful, character-driven stories that captivate audiences worldwide. We're thrilled to collaborate with him, Kristoffer Nyholm and to reunite with B-Reel Films on this bold new take on Swedish crime."

Producers Johannes Åhlund and Ulf Synnerholm said: "With George Kay on board, The Case pushes Scandi-crime into bold new territory - it's an atmospheric thriller that will grip audiences from start to finish."
