CNN Films Celebrates New Year's Day with the Premiere of Marina Zenovich's "I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not"
THE AUTHORIZED YET UNFILTERED DOCUMENTARY OF THE COMEDY LEGEND PREMIERES THURSDAY, JANUARY 1 AT 8PM ET ON CNN
NEW YORK - (November 20, 2025) - CNN will ring in the New Year with I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not, the bold and deeply human portrait of one of Hollywood's great enigmas from two-time Primetime Emmy(R) Award winner Marina Zenovich. Presented by CNN Films, West Buttermilk and PMZ Pictures in association with Propagate Content and Five All in the Fifth Productions, the film will premiere Thursday, January 1 at 8pm ET on CNN. I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not will be available to stream the next day for subscribers of CNN's streaming offering.
"I've always loved a challenge, and Chevy certainly offered one. I wanted to understand the real person behind the guarded, conflicted man we've often seen on camera," said Zenovich. "Beneath the bravado, I found someone deeply human, with layers of humor and emotion that make him far more complex than his public persona may suggest."
I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not charts Chevy Chase's rise from breakout Saturday Night Live phenomenon to box-office royalty, thoughtfully examining the complexities and challenges that have shaped his legacy. With biting wit and disarming candor, Zenovich unpacks how the man once crowned America's comedy golden boy became its favorite cautionary tale. At its heart, I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not is the story of a performer with outsized gifts, who could make a nation laugh - but who could not always outrun his own contradictions - and whose films still circulate in the zeitgeist, quoted and rediscovered by new generations.
"Comedy has long resonated with CNN audiences, and Chevy Chase is one of the genre's most recognizable and complicated figures. With insight and warmth, Marina's film explores the full life behind the laughs, exemplifying the rich, character-driven storytelling that defines CNN Films," said Amy Entelis, executive vice president of talent, CNN Originals and creative development for CNN Worldwide.
"Chevy Chase is one of the most singular comedic talents of our time - a performer whose genius helped define an era of entertainment. Marina Zenovich's film doesn't just revisit that legacy; it reveals the man behind it, in all his contradictions and humanity," said Howard Owens, co-CEO of Propagate Content. "At Propagate our focus is on storytelling that shifts perspective and reveals something unexpected. I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not captures that spirit- it's smart, funny, and unforgettable."
Anchored by revealing interviews with collaborators and confidants - including Dan Aykroyd, Beverly D'Angelo, Goldie Hawn, Lorne Michaels, Ryan Reynolds, and Martin Short - as well as Chase and his family, Zenovich cuts through the legend to reveal the complicated man beneath the smirk. Featuring rare home movies, decades of rich archival footage, and intimate new moments that capture Chase at his most unguarded, I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not is a raw and riveting look at fame, fallout, and the fine line between genius and self-destruction.
I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not is presented by CNN Films and West Buttermilk in association with Propagate Content and Five All in the Fifth Productions. The film is directed and executive produced by Marina Zenovich. The film is produced by P.G. Morgan of PMZ Pictures and Isabel San Vargas Jones and Austin Wilkin of Propagate Content. Executive Producers are Ben Silverman, Howard Owens, Drew Buckley and Andrew D Corkin for Propagate Content; Amy Entelis and Roxanna Sherwood for CNN Films; James Packer for West Buttermilk; and Doug Banker for Five All in the Fifth.
