'Queen Silvia (WT)':Beta Film, Prime Video, and SAT.1 shoot series on the royal love story
Munich, 24 March 2026. What began as a chance encounter between German-Brazilian interpreter Silvia Sommerlath and Sweden's young Crown Prince Carl Gustaf at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich turned into one of Europe's most iconic royal love stories: Beta Film has now joined the high-end drama series Queen Silvia (WT). The six-hour drama brings the remarkable romance to screen, which was immortalized by ABBA's global hit, "Dancing Queen", first performed during the wedding celebrations in 1976. The series is jointly produced by Pyjama Pictures (Germany) and Unlimited Stories (Sweden) for Prime Video in the DACH region and the Nordic countries, as well as for SAT.1 in Germany.
Shooting of the glossy drama Queen Silvia (WT) is currently underway in Munich, Berlin, and Stockholm. Silvia is portrayed by German actress Alicia von Rittberg (Charité, Becoming Elisabeth, Call My Agent! Berlin, Miss Sophie), while Swedish actor Edvin Endre (Eddie the Eagle, Hammarskjöld - Fight For Peace, Vikings, The Playlist) takes on the role of Carl Gustaf.
Justus Riesenkampff, EVP Nordics & Benelux, Beta Film: "Queen Silvia (WT) is not just another royal drama. It tells the unique story of two people who come from completely different worlds. What begins as a flirtation soon turns into an impossible love. Silvia, born in Germany and raised in Brazil, is a dedicated young professional working at the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972. Carl Gustaf, the Crown Prince of Sweden, is a playboy and the guest of honor. Set between Munich, Stockholm, and the French Riviera, and brought to life with a lavish cast and stunning costumes, the series promises to be a must-see for audiences around the globe."
Carsten Kelber, Producer, Pyjama Pictures: "This is one of the biggest love stories of our time - not only between two people, but also between two countries! Putting the relationship in focus and telling it in a grown-up way is magical and modern at the same time!"
Frida Wallman, Producer, Unlimited Stories: „Being part of the first dramatized series about our Swedish Royal couple is both a privilege and a thrill. With the depth of research woven into the scripts and the remarkable collaboration between Sweden and Germany in this production, we simply cannot wait for audiences everywhere to see what we have created."
The series is directed by Miguel Alexandre (Sisi, Gran Paradiso, Shades of Happiness), who also co-wrote the screenplay with Lisa Hofer (Black Island) and Pauline Wolff (Stockholm Requiem, VAKA). The showrunner is Carsten Kelber; the executive producers are Tina Ermuth, Carsten Kelber, and Frank Buchs. Tim Bahalou is the producer, the co-producers are Emil Wiklund and Frida Wallman, Jallo Faber is the director of photography.
With the global appetite for royal love stories seemingly endless, Beta Film established its portfolio with worldwide royal fiction hits, including the international hot seller Maxima and its upcoming spin-off The Other Royals - A Maxima Story by Dutch production company Millstreet Film, as well as the iconic Sisi for Germany's RTL, sold by Beta to more than 120 territories worldwide.
