Filming begins on The Night Marta Disappeared, the fiction miniseries inspired by the case of Marta del Castillo

Netflix has today unveiled the first image of The Night Marta Disappeared, the miniseries that fictionalizes the case that shocked Spanish society in 2009. Produced by Bambú Producciones (The Asunta Case) in collaboration with La Claqueta PC and with the support of Marta del Castillo's family, the miniseries stars Blanca Portillo, Vicente Romero, Verónica Sánchez, María León, Paco Tous and Hugo Welzel, and has begun filming in Seville.

On January 24, 2009, Marta del Castillo, a 17-year-old girl from Seville, disappeared after leaving home to meet Miguel Carcaño. Within hours, what initially seemed like a teenage outing turned into a national tragedy. What followed was a nightmare for her family: contradictory accounts, false confessions, a body that was never found, and a justice system that, despite convictions, was never able to bring closure.

The Night Marta Disappeared is a six-episode fiction miniseries created and written by Ramón Campos, Gema R. Neira, Salvador S. Molina, Curro Serrano and David Orea Arribas, and directed by Carlos Sedes, Laura Alvea and José Ortuño. It recounts the real events of the case and the devastating impact on those searching for the truth, no matter the cost.

The series meticulously and respectfully reconstructs everything that happened from the day of the disappearance: the initial investigation, the shifting testimonies of Miguel Carcaño and his accomplices, the media trial, and the relentless search for the body - but above all, the family's public fight to ensure the case would not go unpunished. It also explores how the media fueled social tension, and how the public turned Marta's name into a symbol.
