German WWII Drama DAS BOOT Resurfaces on MHz Choice This Summer

Four seasons of hit German TV series Das Boot will start premiering this summer as MHz Choice strikes a deal with NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution for the Sky Original Series. MHz Choice will stream Das Boot in the U.S. and Canada.

Kino Lorber's MHz Choice, the leading streaming service for international dramas and mysteries, is adding to its catalog of high-profile IP by acquiring exclusive U.S. rights to multiple Sky original series from NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution. The first to launch will be the acclaimed German series Das Boot, which will debut all episodes of Season 1 July 7 on MHz Choice. Soon after, the American premiere of Season 2 will follow on August 4, with two episodes, then streaming all eight episodes weekly. Premiere dates for Seasons 3 and 4, which have also never been seen in the U.S. before, will be announced at a later date.

"Phenomenally gripping, assured and elegant"

The Wall Street Journal

"A highly entertaining historical thriller"

Screen Rant

"A classy revisiting of the Das Boot universe that retains the claustrophobic doom of [the] classic film while weaving in enough new threads to give it its own identity"

The Guardian

In WWII drama Das Boot, the crew of U612, a German U-boat, embark on their maiden voyage in 1942. Meanwhile, a young woman finds herself caught between the Gestapo and the French Resistance. In its second season, the action takes place across two continents as Klaus Hoffman lands in New York and must navigate the American system and a complex relationship with a Senator's son.

The series stars Franz Dinda (Babylon Berlin), Tom Wlaschiha (Game of Thrones), Rick Okon (Tatort), Rainer Bock (Better Call Saul) and Fleur Geffrier (Sea Shadows, Drops of God), along with Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread), Vincent Kartheiser (Mad Men) and Lizzy Caplan (Masters of Sex). It was created and written by Tony Saint (Tehran, Lupin) and Johannes Betz (Zero, Tatort) and co-produced by Bavaria Fiction, Sky Deutschland and Sonar Entertainment. Executive producers include Moritz Polter and Jan S. Kaiser for Bavaria Fiction, Marcus Ammon and Frank Jastfelder for Sky Deutschland and Oliver Vogel. The highly lauded series was nominated for eleven German Television Awards, including Best Series, Best Actor (Bester Schauspieler) and Best Actress winner Vicky Krieps.

Das Boot joins series like Babylon Berlin, The Killing, The Bridge, and A French Village along with recent titles Camilla Läckberg's Erica and Reykjavík Fusion and the upcoming Zorro in MHz Choice's growing catalog of high-quality international series. The deal with NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution also includes Italian series Dostoyevsky and Piedone - A Cop in Naples, as well as German series Drift - Partners in Crime, all Sky Original series.

"A period drama with modern echoes, Das Boot is a powerful series that's both timely and timeless, stirring and relevant in today's world, and we're thrilled to bring the full series to MHz Choice viewers starting this summer," said Martha Benyam, Chief Operating Officer, Kino Lorber Media Group. "We're grateful to NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution and Sky for their partnership to bring all episodes of Das Boot to American audiences and we hope to be the U.S. home to more Sky original series in the future."

"Our partnership with Kino Lorber's MHz Choice for Sky Original series reflects our shared commitment to delivering premium international content to U.S. audiences," said Michael Bonner, President, NBCUniversal Global TV Distribution. "Das Boot is a gripping, character-driven series that is an exceptional addition to MHz Choice's lineup and exemplifies the kind of globally resonant storytelling that connects with audiences around the world."

Das Boot Season 1 premieres July 7 on MHz Choice.
