May 7, 2026 - New York, NY - The HISTORY Channel(TM) today announced a multiplatform partnership with The White House and Freedom 250 to launch Mission to Honor: A 250th Salute to American Veterans, a nationwide initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States by honoring the service and sacrifice of American veterans across generations.
At the heart of the initiative is a series of first-person video profiles featuring veterans from World War II through the Global War on Terror. Each story will be introduced by a recorded message from President Donald J. Trump, offering a personal tribute to those who have served.
Beginning this spring, the profiles will roll out monthly across HISTORY's platforms on-air, digital, and social, building momentum toward a one-hour primetime documentary event premiering on Veterans Day 2026.
"As we celebrate 250 years of American freedom, we recognize that we would not have this great nation without the brave service members who have risked their lives for us. President Trump and the entire Administration are honored to partner with The History Channel to tell the stories of veterans from World War II, Vietnam, Korea, and the War on Terror. They come from different backgrounds, but their courage, strength, and patriotism represent the very best of our nation. We salute them always," said Vince Haley, Assistant to the President and Director of the Domestic Policy Council.
"For more than 30 years, honoring and telling the stories of the men and women who bravely served our nation has been central to The HISTORY Channel's mission, and through these deeply personal stories and presidential tributes, we are pleased to partner with the White House to create a unifying national moment of gratitude during this historic milestone," said Paul Buccieri, President & Chairman, A+E Global Media. "Mission to Honor represents a unique opportunity to recognize the courage, sacrifice, and enduring legacy of America's veterans as part of our nation's 250-year celebration."
The initiative includes monthly short-form veteran profiles, each introduced by the President, highlighting personal stories of service, leadership, and sacrifice. The content will be distributed across HISTORY Channel linear, History.com, Veterans.com, and social platforms. The project will culminate in a one-hour documentary special premiering on Veterans Day 2026, featuring an opening presidential message and compilation of autobiographical time capsules of the lives of men and women who have served our nation proudly. The initiative will also include a nationwide call to action encouraging Americans to share their own tributes and stories.
Among the veterans who will be featured in the short-form profiles are Paul Priest, who served in the Army's 9th Armored Division during World War II, Louis Graziano, who fought on Omaha Beach on D-Day, E. Royce Williams, a Korean War Navy pilot who received the Medal of Honor for his previously classified acts of heroism; Korean War veteran George Sousa, a corporal in the U.S. Army who served in the 23rd Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division; James McCloughan, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his distinguished actions as an Army combat medic during the Vietnam War; Lieutenant Colonel William Swenson, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery in the Battle of Ganjgal in Afghanistan. Additional veterans are being confirmed.
The campaign will officially kick off this spring, followed by the phased release of stories from May through November.
For more than three decades, The HISTORY Channel(TM) has been a leading destination for programming about the U.S. military and the stories of those who have served. Mission to Honor builds on that legacy, creating a national tribute that connects past and present generations through the voices of veterans themselves.
Additional programming and community initiatives, including activations at military bases and schools nationwide as part of HISTORY's Take a Veteran to School Day, will further extend the impact of the campaign.
