Netflix unveils the first images and the poster for Habeas Corpus, a series featuring Marjorie Estiano and Any Gabrielly, which premieres September 23

São Paulo, August 20, 2026 - When the past comes back to judge you, is there still room to make amends? That is the question at the heart of Habeas Corpus, a new scripted series and Netflix Brazil's first legal drama, which has just unveiled its first images, its poster and its premiere date - September 23. Starring Marjorie Estiano and Any Gabrielly, the series combines courtroom tension with an emotionally charged melodrama, gradually revealing secrets, rivalries, moral ambiguities and relationships that grow more intense with each episode.

The story follows Inez (Marjorie Estiano), a respected law professor who leads a wrongful-conviction review group seeking to prove the innocence of a young man convicted of a crime he claims he did not commit. What Inez doesn't know is that her brightest student, Marina (Any Gabrielly), had a secret agenda when she sought her out - to right an injustice that deeply affected her family in the past. Against the backdrop of a system shaped by inequality and power, Marina and the other students in the group find themselves caught in a dilemma driven by justice and the desire to make amends, as each new discovery triggers another twist.

The story is inspired by the work of Innocence Project Brasil, an organization that investigates and overturns wrongful convictions in Brazil, many of which have resulted in innocent people spending years behind bars. The series uses this reality as a starting point to build a fictional story that humanizes these cases and broadens the conversation around the justice system's failings.

Overall director Luiz Villaça also co-created the series with Leonardo Moreira and Donna Oliveira. Habeas Corpus is produced by Café Royal, with Adriana Tavares as executive producer. The episodes are directed by Villaça and Flávia Lacerda. The final scripts are by Leonardo Moreira. The cast also includes Hypólito, Naruna Costa, Paula Cohen, Renata Gaspar and Tato Gabus Mendes.
