UNSUSPECTING HOMEOWNERS GET THE ULTIMATE RENOVATION SURPRISE IN NEW HGTV SERIES 'HOUSE SHOCK' PREMIERING TUESDAY, SEPT. 22, AT 9 PM ET/PT
New York [Aug. 26, 2026] Sneaky loved ones will nominate unsuspecting homeowners for secret room makeovers in HGTV's new covert renovation series House Shock, premiering Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Host and designer Arielle Vandenberg will team up with expert contractor and former Battle on the Beach winner Steve Lewis to help pull off surprise overhauls of spaces the recipients have dreamed of updating, whether neglected, abandoned or just plain despised.
"Everyone loves surprises, right? But what about a surprise renovation?" said Arielle. "We sneak in, race against the clock, try not to get caught and find out if the surprise pays off."
In each one-hour episode, Arielle will request design inspiration from the nominating family member and track down the perfect pieces on the fly, while Steve and his resourceful construction team will ensure the edge-of-your-seat renovation stays on track and on time. With only days to complete the remodel, the duo will recruit neighbors, friends and coworkers for elaborate cover stories and clever distractions to keep the homeowner in the dark. At the dramatic reveal, the recipient will find out what was happening right under their nose and get the ultimate house shock from the stunning transformation.
"We only have a few days to get the work done, so we have to be quick, clean and quiet, which is hard to do on a construction site," said Steve. "But it's worth it in the end to give these homeowners the renovation surprise of a lifetime."
Throughout the season, Arielle and Steve will go undercover to reno everything from home offices and primary bedrooms to kitchens, living rooms and three-season spaces. As the time ticks down to the final reveals, they'll dodge security cameras and navigate unforeseen challenges, including inclement weather, delivery delays and hidden issues behind the walls.
Fans are invited to engage with HGTV's digital platforms for the latest House Shock announcements at HGTV.com and via @HGTV and #HouseShock on Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, Threads and YouTube. Fans also can follow Arielle Vandenberg (@arielle) and Steve Lewis (@iamstevelewis) on Instagram. Each new episode of House Shock will be available to stream the next day on HBO Max(R) beginning Wednesday, Sept. 23.
House Shock is produced by ITV America.
