ABC's Third Season Premiere of "Desperate Housewives" is the No. 1 TV Program on Sunday in Viewers and Young Adults, as the Net Airs the Top 3 Shows in Adults 18-49

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" Dominates the 8 O'clock Hour in Adults 18-49

Topping its May Sweep Average by 21 Million Viewers and by 8% in Adults 18-49, "Desperate Housewives" Dominates the 9 O'clock Hour in Viewers and Young Adults

With Similar Lead-in Retention to the Debut of "Grey's Anatomy," ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" Tops CBS' "Without a Trace" by 29% in Adults 18-49 And Emerges as the No. 1 New TV Show of the Season in the Key Sales Demo

Sunday Primetime (7:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC delivered a dominant first-place finish on the opening Sunday of the season, defeating second-place CBS by 2.6 million viewers (16.7 million vs. 14.1 million) and by an estimated 39% in Adults 18-49 over NBC's performance in Nielsen's preliminary "fast affiliate ratings" with coverage of "Sunday Night Football" during prime (6.4/16 vs. 4.6/12). ABC also won the night among Adults 18-34 (5.1/15) and Adults 25-54 (7.3/16).

* ABC's third season premiere of "Desperate Housewives" ranked as the No. 1 TV program on Sunday night in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49. In fact ABC aired the Top 3 TV shows on Sunday in the key Adult 18-49 sales demographic, with "Desperate Housewives," "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and "Brothers & Sisters."

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition - 9/24" (7:00-8:00 p.m.)

A special 7 o'clock installment of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" placed a solid second to Fox's football overrun in the hour among Adults 18-49 (3.4/10).

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

In its regular time period premiere, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" won its hour in Total Viewers (17.2 million) and Adults 18-49 (6.3/15).

* "Home Edition" generated the series' largest audience in more than 8 months and its top Adult 18-49 rating in over 6 months - since 1/8/06 and 3/19/06, respectively.

"Desperate Housewives" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

The third season premiere of ABC's "Desperate Housewives" overshadowed its competition in the 9 o'clock hour with an average audience of 23.9 million viewers and a 9.5 rating, 21 share in Adults 18-49, beating CBS' "Cold Case" and NBC's "Sunday Night Football" by wide margins.

* "Desperate Housewives" started out its third season well ahead of where it left off last season. "Desperate Housewives" was up over its 2006 May Sweep performance in the hour by 2.1 million viewers and by 8% in Adults 18-49 (2006 May Sweep = 21.8 million viewers and 8.8/20 in Adults 18-49).

"Brothers & Sisters" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's series debut of "Brothers & Sisters" won the 10 o'clock hour in Adults 18-49, beating CBS' season premiere of veteran drama "Without a Trace" by 29% in Adults 18-49 (6.2/15 vs. 4.8/12). With its strong debut numbers, "Bothers & Sisters" emerged as the No. 1 new series of the season in Adults 18-49.

* In its debut telecast, the lead-in retention for "Brothers & Sisters" (67% in Viewers/65% in Adults 18-49) coming out of "Desperate Housewives" was nearly identical that of "Grey's Anatomy" in its debut telecast out of "Housewives" (67% in Viewers/67% in Adults 18-49 on 3/27/05).
