WEEK No. 4:

During the week of October 9, 2006, ABC ranked No. 1 in the key Adult 18-49 sales demographic for the fourth straight week (4.0/11 - tied with CBS in rating, which was lifted by a substantial NFL overrun on Sunday), beating out third-place NBC by 8% (3.7/10) and fourth-place Fox by 60% (2.5/7). ABC also won its fourth week in a row among Adults 18-34 (3.3/10) and across each of the women demographics: W18-34 (4.3/13), W18-49 (5.3/14) & W25-54 (6.1/15). Disney-owned ABC was again the highest-rated broadcaster during the week with Teens 12-17 (2.0/7) and Kids 2-11 (1.3/6). ABC was competitively balanced throughout the week, winning on 4 of 7 nights in Adults 18-49 and claiming the No. 1 TV program on each of those evenings (Tuesday - "Dancing with the Stars," Wednesday - "Lost," Thursday - "Grey's Anatomy" and Sunday - "Desperate Housewives").

* By ranking No. 1 in Adults 18-49 on each of the first four weeks of the season, ABC is off to its most competitive start to a TV Season in at least 15 years - preceding the start of the Nielsen electronic database in September of 1991. The only other occasion when ABC accomplished the same feat over the course of that period of time was at the start of the '93-94 TV Season, when it also led the opening 4 weeks. Furthermore, ABC is off to the best season start for any television network in 4 years - since beginning of the '02-03 TV Season, when NBC also led the first four weeks. ABC is also enjoying its longest winning streak during the course of a television season in over 6 years - since a streak during spring 2000, during the weeks of 2/21-4/17/00.

* Even without the advantage of "Monday Night Football" in its averages this season, ABC increased its overall Total Viewer count for the fourth week in a row (+7% - 11.5 million vs. 10.7 million) from the year-ago week (w/o 10/10/05). ABC matched its delivery in the same week last year among Adults 18-34, while posting increases across each of the women demographics (W18-34 +8%, W18-49 +10% & W25-54 +11%) and among Teens 12-17 (+5%) and Kids 2-11 (+8%).

* Excluding sports from the season averages to adjust for the loss of "MNF," ABC's primetime delivery has surged by 18% in Total Viewers (12.6 million vs. 10.7 million) and by 13% in Adults 18-49 (4.5/12 vs. 4.0/11) over the first four weeks of last season.

Weekly Rankings: ABC placed 7 of the week's Top 20 TV series in Adults 18-49, including 3 of the Top 4 programs: "Grey's Anatomy" - No. 1, "Desperate Housewives" - No. 2, "Lost" - No. 4, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and "Dancing with the Stars" tied at No. 9, "Brothers & Sisters" - No. 13 and "Dancing with the Stars the Results Show" - No. 16. The Network aired 4 of the Top 5 most-watched television programs during the week: "Grey's Anatomy" - No. 1 (third time in 4 weeks), "Desperate Housewives" - No. 3, "Dancing with the Stars" - No. 4 and "DWTS the Results Show" - No. 5. ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" tied as the No. 1 highest-rated unscripted program of the week in Adults 18-49, as both series surpassed CBS' "Survivor: Cook Islands." The Net's "DWTS" and "DWTS the Results Show" were the Top 2 most watched unscripted shows of the week. Additionally, "Grey's Anatomy" and "Desperate Housewives" stood as the Top 2 TV program of the week in each of the key adult (A18-34/A18-49/A25-54) and women demos (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).
