26.8 Million Watch Seahawks Edge Cowboys on NBC

NEW YORK � Jan. 9, 2007 � NBC drew the most-watched and highest-rated primetime NFL Wild Card game ever with the primetime nailbiter between the Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks Saturday night. The Seahawks' narrow 21-20 victory over the Cowboys averaged a huge 26.8 million viewers and a 16.4 household rating and 27 share, according to final national data from Nielsen Media Research.

The 26.8 million viewers represents a 19 percent jump from last season's primetime wild card game on ABC (22.6 million for Jacksonville-New England). The 16.4/27 is an 18 percent increase from last year (13.9/24).

NBC's Wild Card Saturday averaged 23.5 million viewers, up six percent from last year's Wild Card Saturday on ABC (22.2 million). The two games averaged a 14.6/27, up four percent from last year's 14.1/26 on ABC.

NBC's broadcast of the Kansas City Chiefs lackluster 23-8 loss to the Indianapolis Colts drew 19.7 million viewers and a 12.6/26 according to final national data.

"NBC Sunday Night Football" wrapped up its inaugural season averaging 17.5 million viewers, 1.2 million viewers better than ABC Monday Night Football in 2005 and the best viewership number for the network primetime NFL package in six years (18.5 million on ABC in 2000).
